About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

The position is in Human Resources within the Executive Compensation group and reports to the Manager, Executive Compensation & Retirement Programs. It is located at the Corporate Headquarters in Akron, Ohio.

The position is responsible for performing various business-related activities to support the Executive Compensation department. The Executive Compensation team is responsible for designing and providing competitive base pay and incentives to executives aligned with the compensation philosophy. This position partners with the business units to ensure that programs support their objectives by helping to attract and retain key and critical talent. In addition, this position designs and provides market competitive total rewards in order to attract, motivate, retain and reward employees whose performance contributions and behaviors help drive the Company's success.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development, design and preparation of materials for the FirstEnergy’s Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors

  • Leading the design, implementation and administration of executive compensation and benefit programs, policies and guidelines

  • Consulting with business unit leaders on executive compensation practices and processes

  • Analyzing compensation surveys and/or conducting proxy analyses to determine compensation trends and to ensure competitive positions in the external market and internal equity across the organization

  • Utilizing the annual budget for incentive programs in conjunction with the established budgeting process and timelines

  • Preparing and delivering compensation-related presentations to executives within the company

  • Contributes to the administration of equity award programs under FirstEnergy's Long-Term Incentive Program

  • Providing project management and analytical support in key executive compensation special projects

  • Preparing various ad-hoc reports and statistics for the company's compensation programs and initiatives, which may include performing complex reporting and analysis functions

  • Compiling reports and statistics for FirstEnergy's various executive compensation programs and initiatives

  • Monitoring and conducting research on executive compensation trends

  • Ability to lead the analysis of executive compensation and benefit surveys to ensure competitiveness with the external market

  • Ability to lead the processing of deferred compensation to the Executive Deferred Compensation Plan and open enrollment process

  • Serving as a thought leader in the group as well as a mentor and coach to less tenured employees

  • Recommending process improvements as well as recommending and implementing solutions to more complex compensation issues to drive change across the organization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Audit or Business Administration, or a related field required

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) preferred

  • Minimum 10 years professional work experience required. Executive compensation or financial background preferred

  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills to collect and analyze data, identify issues, and solve problems

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple work assignments and meet demanding deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify problems, analyze solutions and make results-driven recommendations

  • Ability to apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and non-standard situations

  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word); Advanced SAP proficiency is preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts

  • Demonstrated ability working closely with executives is a plus

  • Ability to work together as a team and adjust to changing and multiple priorities

  • Ability to coach peers and team members on skill development, subject matter knowledge, and market trends preferred

  • Knowledge of Code Sections 162(m), 409A and 280G as well as Accounting for Share-based Payments (ASC718) is a plus

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local regulations is a plus

  • Desire to continue to learn, grow and work across FirstEnergy, and deliver
