Current Need

Position Description

The Sourcing Director, Technology is responsible for strategic sourcing across a defined subset of the software and software as a service (SaaS) commodities. This individual will leverage their knowledge of the IT software and SaaS categories to present market opportunities to internal customers and guide sourcing decisions with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), value added resellers (VARs), and service providers. Working hand-in-hand with IT, Legal, Finance, subject matter experts in our risk management community, and business stakeholders, the Sourcing Director, Technology, will ensure McKesson sources the right product or service from the right supplier at the right price.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creates and maintains a category strategy to define and implement a long-term vision and near-term strategy based on their examination of the market, supplier offerings, current and future needs, and aligns with various stakeholders on a 1-3 year plan

  • Converts potential projects into actionable sourcing events; drives internal alignment on strategy through influence rather than mandate, and leverages business partners to execute sourcing process through a timely completion

  • Creates request for information (RFI), request for proposal (RFP), or similar documents, and other sourcing materials to create and maintain leverage with potential and current suppliers

  • Generates savings through various sourcing strategies: contract negotiations, demand management or aggregation, transformation, innovation, etc.

  • Researches industry trends to stay aware of emerging trends in technology, evolving supplier capabilities, and best practices for software and SaaS sourcing

  • Operates within a consultative, programmatic seven-step sourcing approach

  • Maintains supplier relationship management program for strategic suppliers

  • Works with other shared services groups on contract development, including Legal, Finance, Compliance, Privacy, Risk Management, and Information Security

  • Manages risk through sound business practices, contract terms and conditions, and operational continuity plans

  • Ensures compliance with company policies, procedures and regulatory requirements

  • Assists with developing, maintaining, and enforcing service level agreements (SLAs)

  • Conducts self and the category with the highest ethical standards, ensuring that decisions are objective and fact-based

  • Serves as point of escalation for commercial and contractual supplier issues

  • Provides weekly/biweekly updates on project status and opportunities

  • Develop programs to achieve supplier diversity objectives

  • Drive corporate compliance to the preferred-supplier program via end-user change management and communications programs

  • Work closely with Procurement Operations and Corporate Payables to ensure a seamless end-to-end experience for employees

Minimum Requirements

5 years Strategic Sourcing, IT Operations, or IT Finance, actively managing IT suppliers and contracts

Critical Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in defining the vision, mission, strategy and tactics for assigned category

  • Advanced category knowledge and experience sourcing software and SaaS; prefer emphasis in the data platform, data transformation, analytics, and visualization

  • Outstanding communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, including assertiveness, courage, and the ability to influence others

  • Excellent relationship management skills, demonstrating mature confidence and integrity

  • Advanced negotiation skills for information technology (IT) agreements, with examples of significant cost savings and avoidance

  • Business analysis skills to drive and implement programs and services aligned with partners’ needs

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, both as a lead and as a part of a team

  • Ability to work in a team environment to collate and act upon feedback from all levels within the business and sourcing environments

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities of business partners in a complex, multi-business unit environment

  • Familiarity with large OEMs and VARs, as well as smaller challengers/disruptors

  • Ability to multitask and work on several IT sourcing projects at one time

  • Intellectual curiosity, ability to innovate, and the courage to challenge the status quo

  • Previous strategic sourcing experience and success in a large enterprise environment

Additional Knowledge & Skills

Thorough knowledge of purchasing policies, practices and systems, and demonstrates leadership skills

Education

4-year degree in related field or equivalent experience
