Verizon Accounting Project Manager – ERP Project Management in Ashburn, Virginia

What you’ll be doing...

Project management is the art of making things happen. In this role, you will drive the strategy and implementation of systems solutions that support our Enterprise Resource Platform (ERP) activity for our Finance, Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll functions. As part of the Financial Systems Group (FSG) Programs and Strategy Team, you will use your understanding of how processes intertwine in these functions to identify and solve issues focusing on continuous improvement. You will be responsible for leading multiple cross functional teams to plan, build and deliver broad-impact ERP solutions.

  • Fostering strong relationships with stakeholders.

  • Completing gap analyses and identifying solutions to close gaps.

  • Creating detailed project plans and identifying resources.

  • Monitoring project progress and adjusting the plan as needed to ensure timely delivery.

  • Communicating complex business status updates to all stakeholders.

You will work with the Global Process Improvement Acquisition Accounting Team to prepare new acquisition companies for Day 1 accounting and Day 2 Enterprise Resource Platform (ERP) conversions as well as Special Projects that arise. Acquisition work involves a host of duties including: working with the company being acquired before deal close to understand their business and financial system needs. Developing a game plan for that company to meet Day 1 requirements for reporting into Verizon for financial consolidation purposes, control of cash and expenditure authorizations. Day 2 is driven by conversion into VZ’s ERP(s), if needed. Both Day 1 and 2 efforts include understanding the acquired companies ERP master data, requesting new VZ master data as needed and mapping master data between ERPs. This effort involves working closely with both the acquired company and VZ Accounting Teams. You will need to have a thorough understanding of accounting and business processes, ERP Integration experience and testing, be able to work independently given high level direction, and be able to handle a fast paced/quick turnaround environment.

Special Projects involve working on ERP upgrades, Change Requests, and other Accounting work stream items including working with the Financial Systems Governance (FSG) team.

More functions of this position include:

  • Analyze the Target Company for accounting areas that can be improved to gain efficiencies in processes. This includes looking for control weaknesses that need to be addressed and improved.

  • Understand and identify accounting policy differences and work with the External Accounting Teams to drive changes for consistency.

  • Understand the business requirements of the acquisition to determine the best ERP to convert to going forward.

  • Accountable for making decisions and recommendations to ensure the project advances on schedule.

  • Effectively communicate to Team Leads and Management at all levels in a concise and clear fashion.

  • Coordinate the transition of accounting functions between Teams, when needed, and ensure legacy processes are documented.

  • Design, develop and implement methods and strategies to continually improve our M&A Playbook and processes.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or six or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Managed large-scale complex projects.

  • Experience using accounting systems and applications including SAP, Peoplesoft, CPM/Essbase.

  • Knowledge of financial systems, accounting systems and principles.

  • Knowledge of FASB and SEC requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, tax reporting and accounting practices and International Financial Reporting.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, IT or Project Management.

  • Prior Merger & Acquisition experience.

  • Experience in the media, technology and/or telecommunications industry.

  • Project management experience.

  • Strategic skills, with the proven ability to identify and assess key points, implications and recommendations.

  • Understanding of continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis.

  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials.

  • Demonstrated project management skills. Ideally, for large visible technical implementations.

  • Certification in PMP, Six Sigma or Prince2.

  • CPA certification (or are in the process of getting certified).
