Verizon Senior Manager- Partner Strategy in Ashburn, Virginia

What you’ll be doing...

Senior Manager oversees sponsorship acquisition efforts, partnership development and management efforts for a fast-paced technology company in order to generate maximum revenue, based on defined success metrics. Ensure excellent partner relationships and team management. This role is responsible for developing partnership strategies and acquiring high level sponsors to help differentiate Verizon’s portfolio.



  • Communicate a thorough knowledge of product information: technology, marketing initiatives, market research techniques, promotional venues, brand strategy, future challenges and opportunities that will influence the brand.

  • Develop and maintain product manager relationships as a marketing strategist.

  • Direct the development of the Strategic Partner identification Process; personally sell, and train others to sell, the process to existing and emerging product towers.

  • Direct the development of strategic presentations. Sell the proposal and implement its plan, and ensure appropriate follow-up with executives is communicated through the use of dashboards and key performance indicators.

  • Provide strategic recommendations to existing or prospective product capital investment(s) to include new products, product improvements, channel markets, and market research methodologies.

  • Identify internal/external resources to address opportunity.

  • Build and support a strong and strategically focused partner team.

  • Develop thorough knowledge of the company’s policies and procedures.

  • Strategic planning, development and management of key partners for Verizon

  • Strategize and collaborate with Product, Marketing and lines of business within Verizon to align on strategy and goals

  • Develop creative ways to partner with companies in order to maximize their involvement and financial support

  • Oversee development and effective use of partner communications/sales tools (PDFs)

  • Create a standard method for researching and assessing all partners (“playing to win” roger martin methodology)

  • Oversee success metrics, tracking and reporting of sponsor acquisition efforts, including Project Report, Partnership Master Plan Reporting and multi-team communication

  • Strategically identify key high level targets; responsible for directly confirming sponsorships to drive revenue support

  • Train, mentor and manage the partner strategy team, ensuring company goals are met and weekly and personnel-related issues are managed

  • Manage the partnership management team, providing guidance and setting goals on a weekly basis; post, review and hire staff as determined

Strategic Initiatives

  • Work in close partnership with Executive Management to identify potential new business opportunities, and develop plans and action steps to secure such business, both on a national and global basis.

  • Provide strong leadership to peer teams to help drive strategies

  • Support the development of an annual plan for growth for partners with each product tower. Set specific goals based upon this written plan. Modify the plan, as needed, based upon changing product conditions.

Personnel Management

  • This role will manage the partner strategy team and work closely Executive leadership in Product and Marketing.

  • As programs are developed and implemented it will be expected that the individual has the capability to develop, recruit and manage a high-performing team of product marketing strategy professionals.

  • Develop a personal and team Development Plan – managed against specific goals - for all direct reports and ensure that the plan is implemented. Provide regular coaching and feedback.

  • Conduct timely performance appraisals of all direct reports to encourage, motivate and improve staff performance, and to ensure consistency and uniformity in its application in accordance with agency standards.

  • Recruit, hire and effectively train new employees. Actively network to seek out new talent, and routinely interview candidates to add strength to the organization.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or six or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • MBA Preferred.

  • Five or more years of product experience, with three or more years in a product organization.

  • Three or more years of experience in a matrix managed organization.

  • Mastery of PowerPoint and graphical presentation capability.

  • Deep knowledge of excel and financial model management

  • Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines, synthesizing complex technical material into board level presentations.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to develop a long term strategy and execute tactical objectives to incrementally achieve strategic goals.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in the ability to ensure quality deliverables.

  • Routinely demonstrate a thorough understanding of the product development and management process.

  • Possess credibility in the presence of peers in the product organization both technical and business oriented.

  • Strong presentations skills.

  • Ability to:

  • Develop valued relationships with senior-level product management, based upon broad knowledge of marketing and promotional principles and insights.

  • Anticipate and lead product organization perceptions of the creative product, and develop any necessary action steps required to ensure comfort levels.

  • Manage challenging situations and recommend effective solutions to problems.

  • Think in terms of business management including demonstrating cost effective ways to increase productivity, manage expenses, etc.

  • Effectively delegate and manage multiple tasks.

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of assigned product(s), and ability to provide clear direction to new business teams.

  • Collaborate well with other agency departments, executive management, and client management.

  • Effectively educate, develop, lead and manage direct / indirect reports to enable them to oversee their product(s) and job functions.
