Job Summary

The Transportation Business Line is actively seeking a highly talented Senior Transit Project Manager for immediate employment located in various locations throughout the United States. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in the transportation/transit industry and have a successful track record of major passenger transit project management. The applicant will have demonstrated experience in developing teams and approaches to winning and executing major projects. The position will report to the Area/Regional Business Line Leader for the [name] Region and will work in a matrix organization, with local transportation and operations staff, regional leadership, and national transportation business line executives to assist in winning and delivering new AECOM work with major transit clients in the United States. With the passage of significant transit local funding referendums throughout the United States in 2016, AECOM sees a tremendous opportunity to expand our transit practice and help our clients deliver their voter approved programs. Focus will be on project management through final design.

This is a high profile position requiring management of multi-disciplinary teams required to deliver complicated passenger rail and transit facilities, including track, systems, structures, tunnels, stations, and potentially maintenance and storage facilities and/or capacity expansion. The objective of the position is to develop and execute work required to deliver client projects within established and agreed budgets and schedules, thereby expanding AECOM’s reputation as the preferred passenger rail and transit design services consultant in the industry.

Senior Project Manager plans, directs, and supervises all operations included in a large, complex project or several moderately-sized projects with greater risk and complexity, and significant financial impact; resolves complex issues; manages projects on a local to national basis achieving quality outcomes, financial performance and client satisfaction; successfully develops strategy, prepares proposals, negotiates contracts, and executes project; acts as primary point of contact with client and has full responsibility for project delivery. Project teams often include multiple members, representing multiple business lines and disciplines, working in remote locations and including subcontractors.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the National Transportation Business Line leadership team, Area and Regional Executives (operations and business development), the Transportation Regional Business Line Leader (RBLL), and area Business Development Leads on development and execution of significant project pursuits and delivery

  • Formulate and execute project opportunity capture strategies, including teaming and positioning for specific pursuits and identification of required staff resources to win and effectively deliver projects

  • Establish relationships with both external and internal clients and customers, including industry associations and other potential consultant team members

  • Work with area and regional business development leaders to identify upcoming transit pursuits in the US transit market

  • Assist in leading the proposal development process including team formulation, Statement of Qualifications, Technical Proposals and Presentations

  • Attend conferences and workshops to strengthen existing client relationships and establish new relationships; obtain an understanding of emerging technologies and market drivers

  • Maintain a high local and regional profile

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related technical discipline

  • 10+ years of project management experience for major passenger rail and transit projects

  • Proven track record with large client project management, project pursuit execution, and multidisciplinary team management

  • Experience in client prepositioning activities, team (internal and external partners) and proposal development

  • Familiarity with local and federal funding and project development requirements

  • Successful completion of AECOM project management training required (to be provided)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Business Administration, Urban Planning, Engineering, Architecture, or related technical discipline

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer, Certified Urban Planner, Registered Architect and/or Program Management Professional

  • Track record of exceptional client service and program delivery

  • Recognized passenger rail program/project delivery leader

  • Recognized leader in developing and nurturing relationships with key clients

  • Recognized leader in professional organizations
