HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Surgical Tech II - Evenings w/ Weekend Rotation in Austin, Texas
POSITION SUMMARY: The surgical technologist functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse and Physician to facilitate the safe and effective completion of invasive surgical procedures. The surgical technologist possesses knowledge of aseptic technique, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and current technology used to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Direct and indirect patient care activities include the following type of functions: clinical, clerical, materials management, and housekeeping.
The surgical technologist trains and precepts less experienced surgical tech staff in the preparation of the more complex and difficult cases. They serve as a preceptor for surgical technology students and RN interns in multiples specialties and as a resource person for all specialties. The surgical technologist teaches and directs less experienced surgical staff in room preparation and turnover. The technologist participates in unit activities.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Required:
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program OR
Hospital conducted on the job training with proof of program content and completion.
EXPERIENCE : Required:
A minimum of three (3) yearsrecentexperience as a Surgical Technologist with demonstrated competency in multiple inpatient surgical specialties. Preferred:
Expertise in General, GYN, Orthopedic, Neuro, and CV.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrates effective working knowledge of equipment used in work area.
Demonstrates effective guest relations with internal and external customers.
Demonstrates knowledge of Meditech and general computer skills.
Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information.
Participates in budget control by using only those supplies necessary within the work area.
Demonstrate an understanding of HCA’s and St. David’s “Patient First” safety initiatives through strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
Accepts shift work, and takes call as required by the department.
Works with patients ranging in life span from infant to geriatric.
Recognizes that variables such as age, race, nationality, culture, disease-causing vulnerabilities, and socioeconomic factors affect the patient populations under their care, and uses interventions appropriate to these factors.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS :
Current certification as BLS Healthcare Provider Preferrred:
Current Certification as a Surgical Technologist (requirement of minimum 3 years recent experience waived if certified)
