Job Description

Technical and Competitive IT (TaCIT) delivers differentiated capabilities by combining complimentary Technical, business, and IT skills together to create, deploy, and support cutting-edge IT solutions across Shell.

VP Digitalization (PTT/D) organization is accountable for refreshing and maturing targeted Technology Innovation Themes and related technology platforms along with the capability build through Centres of Expertise (CoE) necessary for leveraging digital technologies across Shell.

Computational Technology is a part of the VP Digitalization (PTT/D) organization of TaCIT and is accountable for driving digital innovation opportunities across the Shell business. It is a foundational Technology Platform that enables other key platforms, especially Imaging and Interpretation, Modelling and Optimization and Wells, Reservoir and Facility Management. Computational Technology provides leading edge and competitive High Performance Computing infrastructure for TaCIT applications and workflows, deep expertise in application, workflow and algorithmic optimization as well as maintaining a technology roadmap for next generational capabilities. Other areas of investigation and development are cloud computing and machine learning.

CT develops cutting edge solutions on next generation technologies which have the potential to create immense benefit for departments and organizations across Shell. Our vision is to work with key internal and external stakeholders to leverage the capabilities CT offers to deliver value (target NPV of USD 100M) and apply new technology to develop solutions and approaches that were infeasible before

This role has no direct reports and requires working with virtual, multi-functional and multi-cultural teams and external vendors.

Purpose:

  • Investigate various Machine Learning frameworks and tools (with algorithms) to develop proof of concepts (PoCs) for the identified use cases

  • Collaborate with Advanced Analytics CoE and other relevant Machine Learning groups in Shell to develop a Machine Learning Platform for Shell

Requirements

Skills & Requirements:

  • Working knowledge in supervised/unsupervised (Logistic regression/support vector machines (SVM) etc., Deep learning approaches (Neural Networks)) machine learning algorithms/techniques

  • Programming experience in at least two of the languages Python, R, MATLAB, Octave, C, C++ Minimum Education or Certification: B.E

Desired Skills

  • Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and statistics

  • Demonstrated experience in designing highly scalable classifiers and tools leveraging machine learning techniques

  • Hands-on experience with Big Data technologies like Hadoop, Map Reduce, Apache Spark, Apache Cassandra, Google TensorFlow will be a plus

  • Experience in handling large data sets, rapid prototyping, cloud based development and deployment, and high-performance requirements will be a plus

  • Experience with modern source control systems, e.g. git or Mercurial

  • Familiarity with scientific and numerical computing, or high performance computing will be a plus

  • Strong background in open source technology

  • Pro-active, enthusiastic to learn new things, thoughtful contributor, comfortable working independently and as part of a team
