Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly talented and energetic Lead CADD Designer for immediate employment in the Barrie office. This is a great opportunity for a Senior Municipal Designer who is seeking a role that allows them to apply their experience and provide a design leadership role. Working within the AECOM Water department, the designer will work with a multi-discipline team of Engineers and designers to deliver a variety of projects for water supply, waste water treatment, municipal servicing and private residential and commercial land development. The appropriately qualified candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in design / construction and municipal servicing, roadwork and commercial/residential developments.

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute significantly to the successful design, production, coordination and management of projects

  • Use of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D to establish design objectives and deliverables

  • Performs routine, non-routine and complex design assignments

  • Effectively assist to manage projects on time and on budget with quality, meeting client expectations

  • Work closely with other discipline Engineers, Designers and Project Managers as a key team player within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team

  • Actively involved with the preparation of project proposals by providing input on project tasks, feasibility, resources, costing and conceptual design

  • Client liaison and relationship management

  • Ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs

  • Ensure that engineering deliverables comply with applicable regulations standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices

  • Assist with Environmental Assessments – project coordination and report writing for Municipal Class EAs

  • Assist with supervision and provide guidance/mentoring to technical design staff

  • Demonstrate commitment to excellence and innovation

  • Comply with corporate safety goals and initiatives

  • Comply with corporate project management systems and protocols

Minimum Requirements

  • Technical or Associate’s degree

  • CET Designation

  • 9+ years of experience in CAD design /drafting

  • Experience using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Roadway Rehabilitation, Storm, Sanitary and domestic water system design experience

  • Proven experience on a variety of engineering projects including civil site development, surface water, and water /wastewater infrastructure (including pumping stations and other treatment facilities) and transportation services

  • Experience in Field Surveying and Inspections in Municipal Infrastructure

  • Thorough knowledge of industry standard computer software for the position

  • Must have strong design and computer skills, enjoy self-directed learning, have an enthusiastic and energetic attitude towards solving problems, and take pride in their role in producing high quality deliverables for clients

  • Work effectively in teams under budget and schedule constraints

  • Strong computer skills including advanced working knowledge of Word and Excel

  • Must possess excellent organizational, communication and writing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work with local teams as well as flexibility to work as part of inter-office teams

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

  • Strong interpersonal and technical skills with a good understanding of OPSS and OPSD

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in the planning, design and construction of municipal infrastructure projects or water resources

  • Registered or eligible for the registration with OACETT as a Certified Technologist

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; effective report writing

  • Strong IT skills an asset
