Position Title Principal Engineer (Traffic & Local Roads)

Our Birmingham office is currently seeking a Principal Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation team. The role would suit a proactive, enthusiastic and self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team. This position would ideally suit someone with a transport planning or traffic modelling background.
AECOM’s Birmingham Traffic team has an established track record of successfully delivering major schemes to clients across the region, nationally and internationally. The team provides development control and spatial planning advice as well as concept, preliminary and detailed design, and traffic modelling services on a wide range of projects and supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a highway interface.
We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload. Our position on a number of significant regional and national Transportation Frameworks provides the team with excellent opportunities across the Local Government / Public Sector market ensuring an exciting future and varied workload.
The appropriate level of expertise is required so that the following responsibilities can be carried out to the necessary standards:
Provide development control, spatial planning and transport strategy advice.
Successfully delivering client bids and fee proposals.
Acting as a Technical Lead or Project Manager, including monitoring of financial and team performance.
Ensuring technical content and quality of output produced in line with project brief and AECOM’s quality procedures.
Undertaking Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling Safety-in-Design requirements.
Manage sub-consultants to produce deliverables against agreed timescales and in line with budget.
Line managing, mentoring and supervising staff in the performance of their duties.
Ensuring appropriate local resourcing levels for work to be delivered efficiently.
Actively recruiting to grow the team.
Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Geography, Economics, Planning or a related discipline.
Proven ability of leading single and multi-disciplined projects as Project Manager / Task Leader.
Experience of dealing directly with Clients, Local Authorities and Key Stakeholders.
Demonstrable experience in traffic engineering design (including traffic management, cycling, walking, public transport and parking design) at concept, feasibility and preliminary stages.
Experience in traffic modelling including LINSIG, TRANSYT and VISSIM / Paramics.
Understanding of Health and Safety requirements including CDM responsibilities.
Reasonable geographical flexibility to support project and business requirements.
Excellent technical and communication skills and work well within a team.
You will have a relevant degree and preferably Chartered or will be working towards an appropriate Chartered
status with membership of a relevant professional institution.
