Current Need

McKesson is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technical Consultant to cover clients in the North East territory including New Jersey, New York, Connecticut. Qualified candidates must be willing to travel up to 70% of the time.

Position Description

The Clinical Laboratory Technical Consultant is qualified to provide technical and scientific oversight of each of the specialties of service in which the laboratory performs testing. The consultant interfaces with the administration and laboratory staff, sales force, vendors, consulting team and leaders, and corporate personnel and leadership during all applications of the position.

  • Provide expertise in the setup of new clinical laboratories, to include all levels of complexity. Provides guidance in layout, organization, efficient standards of practice and logistical concerns through implementation process.

  • Establish and ensure that an acceptable General Laboratory Policy and Procedure inclusive of a Quality Control Program and a Quality Assessment Plan is in place and is followed according to all CLIA and state specific guidelines and established parameters for acceptable performance. Monitors on a monthly basis to ensure compliance.

  • Provide expertise and guidance on all federal (CLIA) and state rules and regulatory standards in all accreditation organization regulatory standards over and above the state and federal requirements.

  • Select, verify, establish, and monitor acceptable level of analytical performance of test methods as appropriate for the clinical environment.

  • Resolve technical problems and ensure that remedial actions are taken whenever systems deviate from the established performance specifications.

  • Identify needs and provide training of staff, as appropriate. Assess competency and evaluate performance of staff to adequately perform assigned laboratory activities.

  • Ensure enrollment, participation, and remediation, as required, in an approved Proficiency Testing program as required for the testing offered.

Minimum Requirements

  • 4 - 6 yrs hospital management experience in area of expertise

  • 2 -4 yrs in specific types of software system applications may be required

Critical Skills

  • 4 yrs experience in a clinical laboratory setting

  • Must have Medical Technologist experience with a preference for generalist experience and/or technical consulting experience

  • Expertise in CLIA (federal) regulatory guidelines

  • State specific regulatory standards and accreditation organization standards to include COLA, CAP and Joint Commission

  • Setup and ongoing technical consulting assistance through CLIA for various clinical laboratory settings in the states specified

  • Must be willing to travel 70%

Additional Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience as a laboratory supervisor, manager or technical consultant desired.

Education

Qualified candidates should have one of the following:

  • Doctoral or Master’s Degree in a laboratory science and have a minimum of one year of lab training or experience in the specialty of non-waived testing in the areas of laboratory service of responsibility

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution and have at least 2 years laboratory training or experience in the specialty of non-waived testing in the area of laboratory service of responsibility. The training or experience requirements may be acquired concurrently for more than one specialty.

Certifications/Licensure

  • ASCP certification is preferred

  • Med Tech license if required to do so by the state where the laboratory is located
