Brooklyn Park, MN - Olympus is seeking a plastics manufacturing engineer to build capability across Olympus Surgical Technologies of America (OSTA) and provide technical support to external suppliers. The candidate will: Have critical input on the design process and leverage industry knowledge to overcome challenges due to design or mold construction constraints. Utilize experience with plastic manufacturing to assist in the construction of internal and external injection molds and manage fabrication timelines. Be responsible for providing plastic manufacturing engineering leadership/mentorship to both Sustaining and New Product Development teams. Represent plastic manufacturing as a leader/team member to support new product development and continuous improvement through the role of core team member and/or continuous improvement leader. Understand and possess strong business acumen to prioritize work load to align to business goals. Will influentially lead engineers.

Critical Engineering assessments of suppliers to ensure successful partnerships.
Strong cross functional team member.
Will partner with R&D, Marketing, Regulatory, Design Assurance, Quality, Manufacturing, and Suppliers.
Utilize analytical tools, including statistic methodology, to identify design, process, and production problems and implement permanent solutions in an organized logical manner.
Drive plastic manufacturing operations and new product/process development activities.
Mentor/lead the validation of molding equipment, parts and processes as required (IQ, OQ, PQ).
Implement capacity planning, cost improvement and facilities layout for molding equipment moves, additions and transfers.
Perform training for new and existing machines and processes.
Lead discussions to resolve technical issues or improve processes or products.
Assess process capability and prioritize process improvement opportunities.
Innovate and implement process improvement activities.
Review prints for new and existing products.
Follow Olympus global work instructions and operating procedures.
Own manufacturing procedures to ensure control of product/process design.
Perform all other duties as required.

Plastic Engineering Degree is required, at a minimum Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in science or engineering discipline is required.
Minimum 5 years experience in plastic manufacturing within medical or other regulated industry or minimum 4 years with MS or entry level with PhD.
Proven experience with Scientific Injection Molding (RJG Master Molder I or II preferred) is required.
Proven knowledge is desired of plastic manufacturing processes, including: injection molding, basic and complex mold design, mold build fabrication, mold operation, post automation, and molded part inspection.
Experience with process optimization DOE's, mold validation, and process development (IQ/OQ/PQ) for the injection and insert molding processes is essential.
Experience with internal and external manufacturing transfers including the specification, installation, & validation of capital equipment is necessary.
Mold repair and disassembly experience is desired.
Proficiency using LEAN and Six Sigma tools Knowledge in preforming and/or interpreting moldflow analysis is essential.
Soildworks experience is desired.
Proven experience with injection molding processing and validation is essential.
Must possess leadership and mentoring capabilities with statistical analysis.
Ability to work well/Lead multiple cross functional teams is necessary.
Must possess strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
Supervision of technical resources is desired.
20% travel is necessary (domestic and international).
