Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Operations Manager for employment in the Calgary, AB office. Our Water business line is growing! We are looking for a strategic ambitious leader to be based in Calgary and oversee the Southern Alberta region. Work overseeing a portfolio of private and public sector projects, including water resources, wastewater treatment and flood planning.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide strong and confident leadership to the Calgary Water group in the following areas: Acquisition, professional development, engagement and retention of employees within Calgary Water

  • Assigns employees to projects and ensures, directly and through subordinates, that technical work is completed in accordance with contract scope of work and budget, and to company, professional, quality, and legislative standards

  • Responsible for regular project progress reports to the Water Business Unit Leader – Western Canada

  • Acts as advisor to clients and other departments on technical and business line issues

  • Actively participates in professional associations related to the business line, staying at the forefront of professional and technical standards, serving as a champion of advancing the profession and developing and recruiting employees in the business unit

  • Client relationship management for projects within the business unit; defining and continuously refining the future growth and direction of the team

  • Growing the group’s business base and revenues

  • Contributes in the delivery of the Area Water’s operational objectives including project portfolio performance, group profitability, career development planning with staff, adherence to AECOM’s Quality, Project Delivery, and SH&E programs

  • Building and developing a solid and successful group of professionals

  • Engage, hands-on, in the technical execution of client assignments through to successful project completion

  • With a spirit of inclusion, coach and mentor the Calgary Water group ensuring that client teams have access to staff with the latest technical knowledge and are able to deliver solutions meeting or exceeding client expectations

  • Apply strategic insight and operational planning to ensure that the goals and objectives of the Calgary Water group are aligned with those at the Area and market sector levels

  • Continue to strengthen the market leadership position of the Water group across Calgary and Western Canada

  • Effectively work in partnership and collaborate with other business units within the Calgary office and Western Canada Area to promote the growth and sustainability of AECOM’s business

Effectively coordinate and collaborate with other Water Operations Managers and Regional Business Line Leader in the Area and Region in:

  • Developing future goals and strategies for the Calgary Water group

  • Participating in key sector and corporate initiatives; and offering the best possible services to clients (both internal and external)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering

  • 15+ years progressive experience

  • Registration or ability to obtain professional registration with a provisional Engineering Association such as APEGA

  • Keen business acumen coupled with strong business development experience

  • Solid technical skills in one of the practice areas of water/wastewater treatment, municipal/industrial infrastructure, land development or water resources engineering, developed within a professional services environment, ideally with consulting engineering experience

  • Exceptional client care and service delivery skills

  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills with a dedication to developing lasting client partnerships (internally and externally)

  • Maximizing employee engagement through fostering an inclusive and supportive team environment, implementing and supporting company-wide HR programs and initiatives as required

  • An energetic and enthusiastic coach and mentor driven by diverse and challenging projects, with an ability to recognize and develop talent

  • A strong personality with the ability to become a trusted advisor and a highly regarded/respected leader, and to garner client confidence in AECOM and its people by being a strong advocate of the AECOM core values

  • Proven strengths in becoming well integrated with a regional group and collaborating in a team environment to develop, execute and achieve strategic and operational plans

  • Comfort with a corporate structure and the associated administrative and reporting requirements

  • Experience leading and developing a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • High level communication skills

  • Experience working with Marketing teams in design of credential packages

  • Up to date with industry standards and approaches, and implements best practices
