The positions are located in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Indian Health Service (IHS), Northern Plains Regional Bemidji Area, PHS Indian Health Hospitals INCLUDE: Cass Lake IHS, Cass Lake, MN; Red Lake IHS, Red Lake, MN; and Health Care Facilities INCLUDE: White Earth Health Center, White Earth, MN.

Duties
  • Makes clinical and radiographic examinations of the oral and soft tissues and a diagnosis of pathological or irregular condition
  • Administers local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide analgesia
  • Performs routine and moderately complicated tooth extractions, including surgical procedures
  • Studies results of examination to determine type of service required and develops an acceptable treatment plan
  • Performs endodontic, prosthodontics, periodontic, pedodontic, surgical and routine restorative procedures
  • Recognizes symptoms of an assortment of systemic diseased and referring cases for medical diagnosis

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Education:Degree in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D.) from a school approved by the Council on Dental Education, American Dental Association (ADA); or other dental school, provided the education and knowledge acquired was substantially equivalent to that of graduates from an ADA-approved school. Licensure:Applicants must be currently licensed to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico. Applicants who meet the basic requirements qualify for GS-11.

MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.

This position requires that you obtain and maintain clinical privileges. If they are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee may be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from the Federal service.

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which annual leave is earned.
