Employee Relations Consultant

Employee Relations (ER) is responsible for delivering counseling and support to managers and employees of Bank of America/Merrill Lynch on employee relations matters through a variety of channels which may include telephone or email.

The ER Consultant manages higher risk ER matters including but not limited to Global Human Resources policy, attendance including leaves of absence, performance, behavior, situations with a medical component and conflict resolution. Depending on severity level, the ERC may become the End to End (E2E) owner, partnering with the employee/manager throughout the entirety of the life cycle of the matter.

Enterprise role overview:

The Employee Relations (ER) consultant is responsible for delivering employee relations counseling and support to managers and employees of Bank of America/Merrill Lynch through a variety of channels which may include telephone, email, or chat. The ER Consultant self manages low to moderate risk cases on a variety of ER topics including but not limited to Global Human Resources policy, attendance including leaves of absence, performance and conflict resolution. The role requires consultants to: Use sound judgment to mitigate risk and weight the importance and validity of information to form fact-based opinions, solve problems and make formal recommendations. Multi-task with ease as the ER Consultant manages multiple cases simultaneously while prioritizing the most urgent needs. Effectively influence key stakeholders including managers, internal and external HR partners. Research facts related to individual cases including identifying root causes of issues and opportunities for client experience and GHR process improvements. Provide superb customer care; convey caring, empathy, patience and listening skills. Escalate as appropriate within team leadership structure and processes. Thoroughly and completely document cases in case management tool. Exemplify the Bank of America Core Values in each and every interaction with team, clients and stakeholders.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Must have two or more years of experience as an HR Generalist/ Employee Relations Specialist, OR

  • Must have three or more years of leadership experience managing others and considerable exposure dealing with employee relations

  • A Bachelors Degree in HR Management or related field is preferred; will consider strong experience in lieu of degree

  • Demonstrate strong influence skills at levels in the organization

  • Ability to manage risk while ensuring optimal value and outcomes are achieved

  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously and resolve in a timely manner

  • Communicates effectively (both in writing and when speaking) using clear, concise and simple language

  • Demonstrates a sense of commitment to work and willingly assumes responsibility for accomplishing objectives; is dependable, and conscientiously follows through on commitments

  • Ability to prioritize in the face of competing priorities, interruptions and distractions.

  • Proficiency with computers, including MS Office and Internet applications.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Masters Degree in HR Management or a related field

  • PHR/SPHR Certification(s)
