Bank of America Risk Analysis Specialist - Data Analytics & Validation in Charlotte, North Carolina
Counterparty Credit Risk Analytics (CCRA) is a function within GBAM Risk. The group’s primary function is to ensure adequate controls and processes exist to validate the firm’s Traded Products activity for the purposes of Credit and Capital (Basel) calculations.
Within CCRA, the Data Controls and Integrity team is responsible for data validation of the current state Traded Products repository (ARCTIC), which is ultimately used for Basel RWA capital calculations. The Basel Control Framework requires accurate representation of the bank’s Books and Records in all RWA capital calculations performed. In addition, given that ARCTIC is also the data source for a number of current state Credit and Collateral Management processes, the team is also involved in managing these related work-streams.
Roles & Responsibilities
Challenge existing processes to develop synergies, ensure alignment, and stronger controls.
View the Credit and Capital environment from a holistic stand-point, and be able to identify inter-connecting issues.
Leverage knowledge of Balance Sheet management and be able to challenge certain Accounting or GL entries (as appropriate).
Oversee the reconciliation results across specific GL Asset/Liability classes and be able to handle all day-to-day inquiries from numerous downstream stakeholders.
Address data gaps, execution of tactical and strategic solutions.
Work to ensure certain trade and indicative data is complete, accurate and received on a timely basis.
Prepare monthly Basel reconciliation reports for senior manager review and ultimate RWA calculations.
Liaise with Middle Office and Legal Entity Controllers on reconciliation, with the view to resolving all outstanding breaks.
Work with Technology groups and establish controls to ensure all critical dependencies and batches processing are identified, understood and manage.
Provide business specifications for technology enhancements.
Coordinate with Middle Office and technology to ensure accuracy of the
Perform User Acceptance Testing.
Required Candidate Skills:
5 years + post graduate (Bachelor level) work experience gained in an Investment Bank or Finance environment.
3+ years experience in reporting metrics to management and 2+ years’ experience in data analysis.
Preferred candidate will have Accounting qualifications (CPA/Chartered).
Experience in Finance, Credit Risk, Data Reporting.
Strong Traded Products knowledge, with exposure to Credit Risk and Basel rules.
Ideally basic knowledge of the overall ARCTIC vs. GL Reconciliation process.
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and Power Point is required.
Knowledge of Chart of Accounts hierarchy, with preferred knowledge of Oracle, SAP or Insight General Ledger.
Must be proactive, highly motivated and be able to inspire confidence and results with the wider team.
Strong analytical skills combined with problem solving capabilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Ability to multitask and see the issues holistically in a fast paced environment.
Candidate must be able to manage time sensitive issues, prioritize multiple processes and projects and articulate thought process for decision-making.
Ability to work well in a team environment, Confidence and ability to work with all level of management.
Highly detail oriented and organized – Candidate can identify and resolve issues quickly and accurately.
Majors Considered: Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Financial Engineering, and Information Systems with a Business concentration.
Enterprise Role Overview:
Responsible for performing more complex analysis and is engaged in the development of modeling that maximizes profits and asset growth and minimizes credit and operating losses and other risk exposures. Provides analytical support on various product strategies to ensure company goals are met. Coordinates the production of performance reports for Senior mgt. Reviews and analyzes trends in current population distributions and recommends strategies. May participate in or develop more complex program models to extract data and use databases to provide statistical and financial modeling. Analyzes portfolio trends, concerning credit score cutoffs, loss trends, portfolio dynamics, and bureau scoring criteria. Will participate in the rollout of company-wide pilot programs developed as a result of programmed models. Duties primarily include the regular use of discretion and independent judgment. Programming experience such as SAS, SQL or Micro Strategy and Master's Degree or large data experience preferred. 2-5 year experience
