Position Title Railroad Technical Advisor

The Transportation Business Line in Chicago is actively seeking a talented Technical Advisor for immediate employment in the Chicago office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in the Railroad industry. This person will support various projects and pursuits on an as-needed basis, with a focus on the constructability, design, phasing and staging, and implementation of various Transportation projects involving rail.
Serve as a technical advisor for the development of construction documents, including plans, specifications, and estimates
Participate in project and pursuit working meetings to provide technical input
Help Prepare/review milestone design submittals, with a focus on constructability
Develop and review cost estimates and projections
Provide suggestions to create adjustments as necessary to keep construction costs within budget
Construction and field oversight, with a focus on the review of contractor submittals and coordination with field personnel
Other duties as assigned
High school diploma
8+ years of experience in the rail industry
Knowledge of transit, commuter and freight rail operations
Experience working on large transit/railroad projects with complex interlockings, signals, communications and their interfaces to the office control system
Must be able to work collaboratively with other interfacing multi-disciplinary team members (rail engineers, as well as other civil, structural, electrical and mechanical engineers)
Valid Driver’s License
15+ years' experience preferred
College degree in an engineering-related profession
Experience with local rail and transit operators, including Class I’s, Short-lines, Metra, CTA, NICTD and others
