Kaiser Permanente Emergency Department Technician - 12 Hour (Sunnyside Medical Center) in Clackamas, Oregon
Under the direction and supervision of the physician or nurse assists in examination and treatment of patients. Duties and tasks of the ED Tech will vary depending upon the needs of the patients within the department. The ED Tech will provide patient care for all ages, acuities and conditions in the population the facility serves, including ensuring age-specific care and responding to cultural needs of patients and families. The ED Tech must establish priorities based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment, and supplies. Duties include documentation of patient care and unit activities in a timely, accurate, and concise manner.
Essential Functions: - Serve patient meals & feed patients when assistance is needed. - Stocking & restocking patient care areas, keeping unit neat. - Performs POCT as documented w/ competencies. - Performs POCT quality control checks. - Look up Lab results on computer as directed. - Assists w/ discharge process. - Inventories patient belonging. - Provides post-mortem care. - Assists in emergency situations including resuscitation. - Rooms patients, undresses patients & applies monitoring devices. - Applies nasal cannula, simple mask, & non-rebreather mask. - Obtains, records & reports vital signs, heights, weights & inputs/outputs of patients & reports any unusual findings to the primary RN or physician. - Assists w/ procedures, including positioning, draping & prepping. - Assists patients to/from bathroom, ambulation, & transports. - Performs wound cleaning, irrigation & applies simple dressings. - Applies orthopedic devices, pre-formed splints, performs splinting, cast removal & crutch fitting/teaching. - Assist w/ log rolling, applies cervical collar. - Straight cath( mini-cath), in & out of adults >12 years. - Perform Bladder Scanning. - Assists w/ pelvic exam. - Cardiac monitor surveillance, recognizing, recording & reporting potentially dangerous rhythm changes & arrhythmias in accordance w/ established standards & procedures. - As individual circumstances may arise, patient care demands, safety & efficiency, it is foreseeable that at any given time the ED Tech may be required to perform the following duties & therefore must maintain competencies in the following areas, but are not considered regular duties: Cleaning ED stretchers, equipment & rooms & Performing EKGs.

The incumbent is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance & stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. - Regularly lift & /or move up to 25 pounds unassisted & up to 100 pounds w/ assistance. - Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception & ability to adjust focus. - Incumbent is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. - Frequent exposure to outpatients who may be experiencing a wide range of acute & chronic medical conditions.
Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: - 6 months related experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, or equivalent (e.g. military experience), Medical Assistant w/ experience in Urgency Care setting or completion of first semester of clinical course work in a nursing program. - High School Diploma/GED - BLS - Knowledge of medical terminology.
Preferred Qualifications: - Demonstrated ability to use personal computer. - Cardiac rhythm identification (telemetry).
