This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, Indiana for a Field Service Engineer (Power Generation Controls) The position can also work remotely. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading Supply Chain projects.

Your impact will happen in these and other ways:

Acts as technical liaison between the Cummins field service organization and the Engineering, Quality, & Manufacturing organizations to identify, define, and prioritize most complex product issues and to implement solutions. Coaches and mentors less experienced service engineers.

Identify most complex service issues, initiate problem solving, document cost and customer impact information to establish priority for corrective action.

Lead or manage failure analyses with Field Service, Warranty, and Engineering to communicate and define issues.

Partners with distributors, dealers and customers to support the investigation of most complex escalated product issues, discuss solutions, and conduct training because of complexity, longevity and criticality.

Support product development teams and problem solving teams via the installation of field test engines or components and the monitoring and reporting of reliability data.

Lead reviews to ensure the serviceability of new components and products including the monitoring of new product performance.

Lead initial publication and subsequent revision of service literature.

Ensures new information regarding technical solutions and service procedures is communicated to the service organization.

Works with director to consider improvements and organizational development.

Coaches and mentors or project manages less experienced Service Engineers.



Communication - Written And Verbal - Significant experience in written and verbal communication and should be capable of communicating effectively to all levels within and outside the company.

Component Failure Analysis - Demonstrated capability to analyze engine and/or power generation equipment failures at the component level and to collect the relevant data to develop and support the analysis and conclusions. Demonstrated knowledge by conducting failure analysis on multiple systems and equipment.

Data Gathering And Analysis - Able to create and troubleshoot measurement systems using standard components and existing procedures. Applies tools to data sets without pre-determined solutions.

Diagnostics - Performs diagnostic development work at an advanced level. Proficient in the application of diagnostics in a wide range of work situations. Able to lead the application of diagnostics. Able to train and coach others in the development of diagnostics skills/knowledge.

Focus On Customer Needs - Able to leverage network of customer contacts to attain customer specific information that will provide useful in making informed business decisions and increase understanding of customer needs.

Hazard Analysis - Proficient in the application of hazard analysis in a wide range of work situations. Trains and coaches others in the development of this hazard analysis knowledge.

Rapid Problem Solving - Consistent demonstrated use of the Rapid Problem solving process and databases. Can coach/train others on process and database. Can identify improvements to the problem solving processes and tools.

Warranty/Policy Support - Has working knowledge of the warranty, extended coverage, and policy programs. Is able to evaluate a policy request and determine whether it qualifies or not. Has the capability to determine root cause of failure and assign accountability. Is able to communicate the decision in a diplomatic manner. Coaches/trains employees.

Education, Licenses, Experience, and Certifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering or electronic and computer engineering with significant experience with control systems and power generation.

Cummins Care CFSE (Cummins Field Service Engineering) Specialists: A group of highly skilled individuals who focus on a narrow system or product range to develop expertise in their diagnostic craft. These skills are put to use in Cummins Care through consultations with regional CFSE's to resolve Cummins' most complex field issues. CFSE Specialists are also expected to train and mentor regional CFSE's to increase regional knowledge of the specialty area of focus. These individuals are recognized within Cummins as Subject Matter Experts in their area of focus.

Travel to support field investigation of issues and to deliver training is expected. Most of this travel will be in North America, but there are opportunities for international travel as well.

Specialist Focus Area: This position will focus a significant portion of time on diagnostic and issue resolution related to the PowerGen PowerCommand Control system. Significant previous Cummins control system (Engine or PowerGen with PowerGen being preferred) experience is required.

Location: This position is extremely flexible. As long as the candidate can meet the job requirements, the position can be based in a home office or any Cummins facility in North America.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience plus annualized bonus potential.
