Job Summary

AECOM seeks a highly qualified Civil Structural Inspector to undertake various inspections for the purposes of monitoring the Contractor’s performance of the works in accordance with the requirements of the Contract. Inspections are to be carried out on a daily basis and the particulars/outcome of the inspection are to be recorded and documented.

The Civil Inspector will report directly to the Resident Engineer responsible for monitoring all work relative to their portion and area of responsibility of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring inspection of all works before they are covered over or put out of view;

  • Ensuring all inspection activities are carried out in accordance with project procedures;

  • Ensuring that the Works Inspectors become familiar with all the relevant drawings and written instructions and use them as a reference when inspecting the work;

  • Monitoring all work relative to their portion and area of responsibility of the project to ensure the work is carried out to the client's standards and compliance with the specification, correct materials, workmanship, and schedule;

  • Reviewing and monitoring additional works and variations to the contract recording the utilisation of plant, labour and materials;

  • Providing information and input from the inspection team to the monthly progress report;

  • Liaising with the QA/QC Engineer, Safety Engineer and other Works Inspectors of the various disciplines to flag and rectify any issues which may affect the quality and safety of the works;

  • Ensuring familiarisation of the Works Inspectors with legal requirements and checking of the works is carried out to ensure compliance;

  • Ensuring Works Inspectors have a working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and bring any shortfalls observed to the attention of the person(s) concerned; and,

  • Reporting to the Site Engineer, should the inspections reveal that work or materials do not comply, to either raise a Non-Conformance Report or notify the Contractor and instruct that the work or materials must be re-tested, remedied or removed, as appropriate.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of 8-10 years experience is required with a particular focus on mixed-use building projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or 3 year Diploma in Civil Engineering is required.
