Field Service Engineer UPS (Contact and Permanent Positions)

Location: Dublin city, Ireland

The Eaton Operations in Dublin has around 50 head counts.

We now have an exciting project being launched in Dublin for one of our global clients. We are looking for several Field Service Engineers (mix of both permanent and contract) to work across 3 sites in Dublin City on our client’s Data Centers.

The Field Services Engineers will be responsible for providing a first class service for the Eaton installed base products to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and loyalty. They will be responsible for commissioning, preventive maintenance and product repairs.

Essential Functions:

  • Communication skills: Documents and communicates clear action plans, continuously updates customer

  • Meets or exceeds customer needs while maintaining personal accountability

  • Keeps in contact with key customer contacts and Sales Account Manager

  • Works closely with project teams to ensure smooth implementation for commissioning

  • Safety:

o Understanding of the nature of electricity/voltage the difference between AC and DC.

o Have worked with a Lock out/ Tag Out System, familiar with the requirements

o Able to understand a one line diagram and identify the isolation points to remove energy from a switchboard/switchgear/panel. Not just electrical – there is potential energy (mechanical ) in the charging springs of most large breakers

o Understand the fundamentals of operation and associated hazards of basic power distribution system, A system which includes some of the following components: Circuit Breakers, Low voltage, Medium Voltage, Panel board breakers

  • Communication Setup and troubleshooting

o modify the network settings of a laptop to allow access to various discrete devices individually to set the network address, communication protocols, triggers, initial device setup, and troubleshooting.

o Be able to verify/troubleshoot the wiring of a communication network. Either Cat6, 232 or 485. Determining proper termination and use of terminating resistors.

o Familiarity with troubleshooting communication issues and the use of troubleshooting software i.e. mod-scan or wiretap.

o interface with equipment through the individual HMI to verify system parameters are consistent with the EPMS (Electric Plant Management System)

  • General Project Tasks

o interpret complex one-line, three line, and point to point drawing to determine proper wiring of components.

o document complex issues to resolution, by using screenshots, technical dialogue, and attention to detail to system indicators.



  • Diploma, or higher, in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or equivalent.

  • Good understanding of power electronics, rectifiers & inverters.

  • Good understanding of electrical power distribution and installation.

  • Experience of electrical equipment maintenance and fault finding.

  • Experience / Understanding of high voltage battery strings an advantage.

  • Experience with HMI (Human Machine Interface) software and power monitoring software packages.

  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, SNMP, OPC, DDE, TCP/IP.

  • Strong computer skills required with Windows Operating Systems and Databases.

  • Knowledge of power quality meters, trip units, protective relays and UPS.

  • Knowledge and practice of safety precautions related to working with automation and power management systems.

  • Ability to interface with internal and external customers, salespeople, and other team members on a technical level.
