Eaton Corporation Engineering Lab Supervisor in Ellisville, Missouri

Position Overview:

The lab supervisor will provide direction and leadership to the Bussmann Division’s Gubany Center High Power Laboratory. This laboratory is a unique test facility that provides high power (up to 1000V, 300kA) testing to ensure the robustness of various circuit protection products. The lab supervisor will be accountable for the performance of laboratory operations and will drive a team of electrical technicians, test station operators, and a test engineer to improve productivity, safety, and on-time metrics. Under the supervision of the lab supervisor, the lab will continue to provide laboratory services through safe, reliable and timely test execution, enabling rapid response to growth opportunities, cost-saving solutions, and product maintenance

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains and improves both Gubany Center High Current Lab and site safety.

  • Performs tests on electrical power distribution apparatus involving high voltage, high current surge, or high power testing. This includes project definition, work breakdown, and scheduling. Executes project planned activities as well as adjusting to unplanned circumstances.

  • Reviews test methods required by standards and develops procedures as needed to provide repeatable test practices. Incorporates changes to improve safety, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency.

  • Designs and sets up test circuits including test instrumentation and control. Execution involves running the test, collecting test data, evaluating results, and writing reports.

  • Establishes test capabilities based on customer test requirements, test equipment available in industry, and current best practices.

  • Participates with laboratory management to ensure compliance with IEC/ISO 17025.

  • Maintains Gubany Center test equipment and instrumentation, minimizing potential impacts to testing and test equipment.

  • Manages a team of skilled electrical technicians per the terms of the union contract.

  • Coordinates testing and maintenance schedules in all test cells based on business priorities.

  • Provides feedback to engineers on product testing results and changes to procedures, working closely to maintain product label service and support new product development.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Minimum of 5 years of electrical engineering related experience.

  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Minimum of 2 years in a testing or field service environment.

  • Minimum of 2 years in a testing or field service environment.

  • Experience working within quality management systems is highly desirable.

  • Experience in testing techniques. Knowledge of power test equipment and measurement instrumentation is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of electrical distribution apparatus and applicable industry standards is desirable.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

  • Experience with lab automation software and electrical system modeling is desirable.
