First Energy Corp. Engineer, Power Network Analysis - Transmission in Fairmont, West Virginia

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00] This individual will be responsible for supporting Power Network Analysis within the Transmission Operations Support department. Responsibilities include: - Maintain and enhance the network analysis system within the Real-time Energy Management System (EMS)

  • Support and maintain the Dispatcher Training Simulator (DTS) system.

  • Review and update SCADA/ICCP telemetry.

  • Perform, or aid in performing, special studies (STNET) and projects of varying complexity relating to the operation of FE Transmission system.

  • Interface with ED Planning and Protection in preparation of seasonal assessment studies and network model comparisons.

  • Coordinate data changes such as limit updates and topology changes. - Work with Regional personnel to coordinate joint Transmission initiatives.

  • Work closely with internal staff to support compliance issues.

  • Assist in the maintenance and coordination of back-up facilities.

  • Prepare technical reports and summaries, and make presentations when necessary.

  • Demonstrate a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.

  • Meet customer needs by providing sound service and responsiveness.

  • Actively seek formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand departmental procedures. The Engineer III/IV level will be expected to perform all of the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the Engineer III/IV level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those above. Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience at the Engineer III level and minimum of 5 years experience at the Engineer IV level. - Knowledge of the electric transmission system, reliability standards, and regional transmission organizations is beneficial.

  • Knowledge of NERC and RFC standards and policies of the electric utility industry is preferred.

  • Experience in analyzing complex problems and demonstrating good judgment in decision making is essential.

  • The candidate must have demonstrated experience in accomplishing responsibilities in a timely manner through maximizing organizational resources and employing logical approaches.

  • The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, with multiple departments in multiple locations.

  • The candidate must have effective written and oral communication skills and conduct oneself in a professional manner.

  • Proficient PC skills (Word, Excel and Outlook) are required with core understanding of applicable technical products and/or services.
