Summary:TheCarpenterperforms various tasks related to maintaining and repairing buildings, grounds, and related facilities; and with installing, repairing, rebuilding and maintaining in efficient operating condition a wide variety of buildings, facilities and/or structures and structural requirements designed for use in domestic, commercial, and industrial applications.

  • The Carpenter perform duties necessary to maintain in good repair building and facilities comprised of wood, sheet-metal, concrete, stucco, and other materials used by the construction industry normally defined as building materials used in the structural requirements of a building using equipment and tools found within the structural trades to maintain building structures including interior and exterior wall, doors, hallways, walkways, entrances, roofs, sidings, ceilings. bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, flooring, signage, interior and exterior doors both personnel and overhead, locks to include mechanical and electronic or other electrical lock mechanisms, sheet metal work involving machine guards, grease pans, shelves, lockers, tanks, ventilators, chutes, ducts, metal roofing and other sheet-metal equipment and fixtures.

  • Work involves most of the following: planning and laying out of work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions, using a variety of structural hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments, and making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work; and selecting materials necessary for the work.

  • The Carpenter studies specifications; and measures, marks, and cuts boards, using patterns, templates, ruler, pencil, and hand and power saws.

  • Fastens or installs parts, using hammer, nailing machine, or power stapler.

  • Repairs defects by replacing damaged parts. May fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds.

  • May apply preservative to prolong wood, metal or other materials life.

  • May pack, seal, band, and apply markings as necessary.

  • The Carpenter prepares floors by removing old surface covering such as carpet, tile or vinyl, stripping, patching, or cleaning the subsurface floor. Measures and cuts flooring to size, using trade tools.

  • Lays and places flooring on top of appropriate substrate. Cuts, trims, and stretches flooring material as necessary to ensure a quality fit along wall edges, openings, and projections.

  • Installs edging and door strips or adds other decorative fixtures or applications.

  • The Carpenter may design, lay-out and fabricate from precedents, standards or other established practices signs, graphics, logos, or other identification signs in accordance with applicable Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

  • Work involves planning and laying out all types of sheet-metal from blueprints, models, or other specifications: setting up and operating all available types of sheet-metal working machines to cut and prepare sign blanks for sign application.

  • From electronic designs, digital graphic software, and specific information as to appropriate size, such as manuals giving dimensions of standards, determines the arrangement and layout and color coding.

  • Scans, drafts and designs graphics then digitizes layout and set overlays and inputs renderings into production equipment.

  • Using computer assisted computer equipment, prepares and revises detail, design graphics and typography to applicable code.

  • Operates computer controlled vinyl cutting equipment for each overlay then applies material to metal blanks in accordance with designs.

  • Applies surface coating with applicable tools or equipment in creation of freehand signage, logos and other special requirements.

  • The Carpenter paints and redecorates walls, woodwork, concrete, metal and fixtures.

  • Work involves the following: May mix colors, oils, white lead and other paint ingredients to obtain proper color or consistency.

  • Preparing surface by removing old finish or by placing putty or filler in holes and interstices; and applying coating with spray gun, brush, or other suitable tool.

  • Ensures work orders when complete are properly filled out and returned to work management

  • Supports the project Safety Plan through personal involvement in all aspects of safety, including training and attention to the adherence to safety requirements pertaining to particular trades or skills.

  • This position has been designated as Mission Critical. Mission Critical personnel are defined as those required to meet the Installation’s safety (including inclement weather) and security needs during lockdown conditions.

  • This position may be part of an emergency management/response team as required by the company to meet contract requirements.

  • High school diploma or equivalent with applicable trade school or 5 years experience.

  • A valid state driver’s license.

  • Experience acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

  • Facilities maintenance experience and knowledge of required work ranging in a variety of maintenance and repairs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and the ability to work on; buildings comprised of various building trade materials including wood, sheet-metal, stucco, and other structural and decorative materials.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work with hands and knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and practices used in the field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved.

  • Demonstrated skill in the care and use of the tools and equipment in the trades involved.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand verbal and written description of technical work-related problems (i.e. drawings, floor plans, etc.)

  • Knowledge of surface peculiarities and types of preparations required for different applications.

  • Proficient in computer programs as required for job requirements.
