HCA, Hospital Corporation of America Physicist PRN in Gainesville, Florida
The position will be based in Gainesville, with some travel to the Lake City facility. North Florida Radiation Oncology is affiliated with the North Florida Regional Medical Center. The center treats 60 patients per day on two Varian linacs, a Gen 4 CyberKnife, and a VariSource HDR afterloader. The paperless clinic uses Aria Version 13.6 for EMR, and treatment planning is performed in Eclipse and MultiPlan.
_ Primary Functions_ * Verifies the operation and calibration of all external beam therapy machines and afterloader-delivered radioactive sources in accordance with established guidelines and protocols. * Performs initial treatment plan evaluations and verifications to assure the accuracy, safety and efficacy of dose delivery. Recommends improvements to treatment plans to physicians and dosimetry when appropriate * Performs continuing physics consultation to assure accurate delivery of treatments throughout the course of each patients care. * Provides physics support and consultation on simulation through final treatment, including immobilization, custom shields and modifiers, patient alignment and advanced specialized therapies. * Assists with and occasionally performs treatment planning and image fusions. * Provides a physics resource to staff and physicians * Assists the physics staff with implementation of new technologies and new treatment modalities. * Assures that all staff are performing their duties with the ALARA concept in mind, and fully aware of all radiation safety procedures as needed. * Demonstrates professional behavior/conduct in all interactions, and fosters teamwork amongst staff. * Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. * Supervision of the design and construction of patient treatment aids or special devices including blocks, compensators, molds, etc. * Supervision of brachytherapy procedures when applicable and abiding by NRC/State regulations.
The successful candidate must have a Master’s Degree or PhD in Medical Physics or a closely related discipline. The candidate must have certification from the American Board of Radiology, and must possess or be eligible for a Florida license, in Therapeutic Radiological Physics. The candidate must demonstrate effective communications skills, both oral and written. Experience with IMRT, VMAT, TrueBeam, Eclipse and Aria is required. Direct experience with SBRT, SRS, HDR, MIM, AlignRT and 4DCT is strongly preferred.
