Job Description

As Practice Technical Supervisor of Ophthalmology, you will supervise and coordinate the daily work-flow and staff activities in support of the Ocular Surface Center. You will also ensure assignments are completed and maintain quality patient care. You may function as a technologist and help maintain equipment and inventory, as well as, respond to emergency calls.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversees daily technical operations of the Ocular Surface Center. Ensures adequate technical staff complement for patient care.

  • Oversees new ophthalmologic procedures and techniques performed in the Ocular Surface Center and trains appropriate technicians.

  • Prioritizes, schedules, assigns and monitors work to optimize operational service.

  • Assigns duties and room rotations to Ophthalmic Technicians in the Ocular Surface Center. Assists in preparation of patient for examination.

  • Collaborates with management to analyze, recommend, implement and monitor approved work-flow changes for Ophthalmology department.

  • Monitors patient flow in the Ocular Surface Center and ensures patients are seen in a timely manner. Removes barriers to improve patient flow.

  • Translates procedures into simple terms based on professional knowledge to relieve patient of pre-testing anxiety.

  • Sets-up equipment to administer procedures in a timely fashion.

  • Ensures all OSC exam rooms are properly stocked and diagnostic instrumentation is properly calibrated.

  • Ensures adequate inventory of supplies in the Ocular Surface Center.

  • Troubleshoots mechanical equipment problems and performs minor repairs, as necessary.

  • Contacts outside service companies to schedule equipment/repair and preventative maintenance in the Ocular Surface Center.

  • May perform duties of a Certified Ophthalmic Technician, including but not limited to A-Scan, B-Scan, Tentacam, Manual K's, OCT, Anterior Segment UBM, slit lamp photography.

  • Responds to emergency calls.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Health Care Admin/Management, Liberal Arts or Business, required. Bachelor's Degree, preferred.

  • Minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible ophthalmology and supervisory experience, required.

  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician, required.
