Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Supports the Inland Marine Line of Business by developing new products; maintaining existing products; managing product focused projects; operational efficiencies; platform efficiencies; communication of product development; and conducting related training.

Provides technical and consultative guidance to the Inland Marine Business Unit and Enterprise on assigned Inland Marine Classes of Business.

Conducts investigations and analyzes the pros and cons of a new product offering to support the Inland Marine business or enterprise position. Gathers data on corporate exposure, claim analysis, actuarial data, risk control expertise, etc to support a corporate/Inland Marine business unit position.

Works collaboratively to support the Inland Marine product line strategy in the Inland Marine Business Unit and/or Business Insurance.

Recommends underwriting policies and standards which support the development of assigned product or Inland Marine Class of Business and services, such as researching and identifying target business, competitor information, industry and economic factors across the business and/or Business Insurance.

Prepares the analysis and gather data to support the corporate underwriting policies/standards on topics of broad interest or national exposure such as catastrophes, terrorism, bird flu, global warming as respects to assigned Inland Marine Class of Business or Enterprise positions.

Develops and maintains effective relationships with internal resources (e.g. Actuarial, Risk Control, Claim, Operations, Shared Services, IT) to ensure delivery of all related services that support product development.

Collaborates with actuarial staff to assure that forms and filings are supportive of the Inland Marine product and the organization.

Collects and analyzes claim data to determine if claim initiatives are aligned with Inland Marine product line, industry, and Enterprise strategy.

Monitors product results (i.e., line profitability analysis, quarterly loss trends, utilization/productivity, etc.) and make recommendations for corrective action as necessary.

Prepares findings and analyze data in support of the company’s position on the assigned product to respond to requests from regulators or state/national agencies.

Participates in Underwriting Quality Assurance (Field Performance) reviews to ensure consistent execution of underwriting, product and process standards in accordance with corporate and the Inland Marine business unit’s practices, as well as maintain a connection with the field operations, for underwriting and product-related needs.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge:

6 years of Business Insurance experience. Business insurance forms/product development, claims or legal experience. Thorough understanding of Business Insurance products, systems, contracts, forms, coverage, distribution channels, regulatory environment and insurance financials. Strong Inland Marine coverage and product knowledge.Strong communication skills. Excellent writing skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required. 4 years of insurance experience with working knowledge and experience in product, underwriting or coverage required. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required.
