The Senior Employee Relations Consultant will consult with, and influence, Aetna managers and employees to align behaviors and practices with company values and operating principles. Deliver effective and efficient Employee Relations consulting services. Consult on the employee impact of business strategies in assigned client areas and identify areas of employment risk. Assist in the implementation and administration of HR Policies and practices that support a high performance organization.

Fundamental Components:

  • Respond to and resolve ER case work delivered in a case tracking tool from our HR Contact Center; work is primarily managed telephonically and remotely.

  • Consult with managers and employees on a variety of workplace issues - i.e., attendance management, leaves of absence, performance, misconduct, interpersonal conflict/relationship issues, downsizing/job eliminations, etc.

  • Provide guidance on informal coaching, discipline and terminations.

  • Work collaboratively with Sr. ER Consultants, ER Director and enterprise-wide resources as appropriate to bring issues to resolution.

  • Analyze ER and other HR data to identify trends in business areas. Use that analysis to work with business leaders and HR partners to identify ways to address potential problem areas proactively.

  • Participate in the implementation and training of HR policies and programs. Using a process improvement mindset, deliver ER services efficiently and effectively, looking for ways to improve policy or process.

  • Scope is national, multi-business and multi-site.


  • Minimum of 5 years experience in an HR generalist role, with Employee Relations experience required.

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing HR policies and practices.

  • Experience in managing job reduction/job elimination activity from staff assessment/selection to the execution of job actions.

  • Demonstrated expertise in consulting, influencing, and working collaboratively across the organization.


    The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.


    Human Resources/HR Certification (Analytics,Consulting,Project Management) is desired

    Human Resources/Human Resources Certification (ex. PHR, SPHR, etc.) is desired
