TheBehavioral Health Baker Act Coordinatorhas a thorough working knowledge of the Baker Act Florida Statute (Chapter 394). This person must have the ability to liaison with the appropriate judiciary officials, families, patients, and physicians. The Behavioral Health Baker Act Coordinator must be able to communicate all aspects of the Baker Act to patients and families and will serve as a community resource and educator. This individual must have working knowledge of the Florida Nurse Practice Act.
TheBehavioral Health Baker Act Coordinatormaintains knowledge of Baker Act Florida Statute and other regulatory compliance requirements. Provides education to patients and families regarding legal requirements. Involves the patient, or designated person, in decision making and planning. Completes required Legal Guardian Advocate training. Acts as a liaison between the patient, Representative, Guardian, Hospital, Public Defender, and mental health Court. Responsible for sending a copy of the BA and AHCA Cover Sheet to AHCA (Baker Act Reporting Center) and to the Human Rights Advocacy Committee. Attends all Involuntary Commitment Hearings. Responsible for coordinating staffing needs and patient transportation to/from mental health court. Maintains Baker Act log and provides monthly reports to Director. Participates in committees, groups, DCF Baker Act meetings or hearings related to changes in Baker Act requirements.
The Behavioral Health Baker Act Coordinator supports the implementation of new standards for achievement of performance improvement initiatives. Assists with the ongoing monitoring and compliance with Psychiatric Core measures.
The Behavioral Health Baker Act Coordinator assists Director in assessing staff competencies and knowledge regarding regulatory standards. Maintains a strong collaborative relationship with other departments within the hospital, regulatory agencies and Memorial Hospital Medical Staff.
The Behavioral Health Baker Act Coordinator provides direct supervision and mentoring of assistant nurse managers, nursing and other behavioral health associates specific to the Baker Act Florida Statute and nurse practice issues. Assists Clinical Coordinator in completion of orientation, annual skills validation, required mandatory training for assigned associates. Provides annual Baker Act Training for all Behavioral Health staff. Assists Director and Clinical Coordinator in goal and program development.
The Behavioral Health Baker Act Coordinator works collaboratively with the Admissions/Intake Coordinator and Utilization Review Coordinator to ensure appropriate compliance with admission and authorization process.
The Behavioral Health Baker Act Coordinator responds to Psychiatric emergencies throughout the hospital. Monitors staff response and compliance with standards. Identifies opportunities for improvement, develops and implements corrective action plan. Works collaboratively with other department leaders to implement plan.
The Behavioral Health Baker Act Coordinator participates in and facilitates unit based support of Magnet Program for Nursing Services. Facilitates unit council meetings. Promotes and supports unit based research activities.
The Behavioral Health Baker Act Coordinator demonstrates commitment to the Safety Program. Works collaboratively with associates to provide a high level of customer service with an emphasis on patient safety. Investigates, provides reports, and participates in RCA process for any reported event. Support Director and Clinical Coordinator in the development and implementation of corrective action plans to minimize future complaints and/or events.
Education: * At least an Associate's Degree for a Registered Nurse applicant or at least a Master’s Degree in Psychology or Social Work for Non-Registered Nurse applicant License/Certification: * An active state of Florida issued Registered Nurse (RN) license or Master’s level degree in Psychology or Social Work is required * A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) card is required * Non-violent crisis intervention (CPI) within 30 days of hire is required - not required to be hired, will be trained once employed Experience: * A minimum of 2 years Psychiatric/Mental Health experience is required Shift: * Monday through Friday position - no weekends * Standard Day Shift Hours: approximately 8:00am to 5:00pm
