_Position Summary_ __ The Monitor Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms.

_Essential Duties_

Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patients’ cardiac rhythms and notifies clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders. Is the gatekeeper for telemetry units and initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge. Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting to the Central Monitoring area.

_Required License/Certification_ Current American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers

_Required Experience_ Prior monitor experience

_Preferred Education_ High School Diploma or GED

_Special or Additional Competencies or Qualifications_ Knowledge of basic anatomy/physiology of the heart. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clinicians, and the general public. Ability to work under moderate pressure for extended periods of time. Ability to accept responsibility for accuracy and response times to emergent and non-emergent requests. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

All candidates hired into this position will have a certain time frame to successfully complete Memorial Hospital's Cardiac Monitor Technician Training Course
