Senior Java Developer Role

This position is for an experienced developer with strong ability to build business-critical systems with a keen eye on stability and performance. This is an exciting role as part of our PME (“Product Master Environment”) development team, delivering a strategic Product Data Solution for our Equities business. PME is the firm-wide provider of product (financial security) & pricing reference data, which is critical to 400+ consuming applications spanning multiple lines of business (Global Markets, Global Wealth & Investment Management, etc) from the front office (trading apps, etc) to back office operations and risk systems.

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with a great team of individuals working on a cutting edge technology stack and agile delivery methodology. Due to the dynamic work environment we expect new joiners to be flexible, self-sufficient with very strong problem solving skills and ability to learn our business, data and technology stack with minimalsupervision.

You will be working on reference data systems which support all the trading operations for Bank of America’s global markets business. You will be working on a strategic technology platform which has an exciting roadmap, enriching it with numerous exchange data feeds, and executing on a challenging processing and data distribution scenarios. As the Senior Java Developer your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Developing new features for both legacy and strategic Java and Scala platforms for data acquisition, processing, and distribution.

  • Building tools to reduce time to market for onboarding new feeds, including data quality monitoring, data reconciliation, and automated test tools

  • Adding new features to the core reference data platform to manage data quality and analytics.

  • You will also be expected to gain an understanding of the business data domain and perform analysis when necessary.

  • In addition, you will be providing second and third level support for the applications.

  • You will be required to troubleshoot performance issues and tune applications if needed. As the Senior Java Developer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • Strong Java development with good understanding of related frameworks (Spring, Hibernate, JEE)

  • Strong Oracle & SQL and understanding of relational data models

  • Linux (no windows only developers)

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills and enjoys a collaborative environment.

  • Financial securities knowledge, especially in the Equities domain

  • Experience enhancing and maintaining mission-critical software in a fast-paced environment is a plus A successful candidate will have exposure to the following skills as part of the role, so prior experience would be great but not required.

  • Scala development skills are a plus

  • Python / Perl scripting is a plus

  • Understanding of Informatica ETL

  • RDF (Resource Description Framework)

  • Hadoop software stack

Responsible for developing, enhancing, modifying and/or maintaining applications in the Global Markets environment. Software developers design, code, test, debug and document programs as well as support activities for the corporate systems architecture. Employees work closely with business partners in defining requirements for system applications. Employees are expected to have in-depth capital markets product knowledge, and manage a high level of risk. Employees typically have in-depth knowledge of development tools and languages. Is clearly recognized as a content expert by peers. Individual contributor role. Typically requires 5-7 years of applicable experience.
