Verizon Senior Accountant - General Accounting in Lake Mary, Florida

What you’ll be doing...

You’ll be working on a variety of core accounting activities such as preparing journal entries, verifying records, reconciling accounts and resolving errors. Our financials can get a bit complicated and we have a few government regulations we’ve got to comply with as well.   • Preparing monthly reporting, conducting analysis of trends and using professional judgment to settle variances. Areas of focus may include specific geographic areas or service types.

  • Performing complex analytical assignments and preparing accounting related reports.

  • This position will also take a more leading role in the company's efforts to comply with the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley. Ensuring compliance and adherence with controls for internal policies and external regulations.

  • Leading or participating, as required, in training and skills development initiatives as a subject matter expert.

  • May act as a project manager for small to medium sized projects, leading a team of peers and subordinates in a matrix organization. Value is provided to the enterprise by participating in the identification of improvements to accounting processes in order to provide timely, accurate information and to ultimately safeguard enterprise assets.

  • Providing expertise on processes or issues to the assigned team and work stream.

  • Coordinating the recording of month end activity.

  • Performing analysis and coordinating with partners to resolve any differences.

  • Analyzing and interpreting reports for managers providing recommendations to guide business decisions.

  • Undertaking of accounting projects and providing guidance on accounting issues as needed.

  • Fielding issue escalations from internal customers or delivery partners and responding to customer inquiries as requested, ensuring issue and error resolution.

  • Leading reviews for accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.

  • Maintaining records for routine accounting transactions.

  • Preparing reconciliations of accounts.

  • Demonstrating familiarity with a broad variety of data sources supporting access cost accounting from various technologies with the applicable requirements for analysis.

  • Engaging clients and users in defining access cost accounting business processes supported by process changes or system solutions and using business cases for full development of business requirements and needs.

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining, procedures and policies for the accounting function.

  • Comparing system outputs with daily input verifying for accuracy and resolving discrepancies.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or two or more years of work experience.

  • Two or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience preparing General Ledgers, knowledge of FASB and SEC requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, tax reporting and accounting practices.

  • Experience using Microsoft Office (including Excel), PeopleSoft, or SAP.

  • Knowledge of report query and design using Excel, Access or other software.

  • Knowledge of accounting systems and applications including SAP, PeopleSoft, CPM/Essbase, Hyperion Financial Management, Webfocus or Blackline.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting.

  • CPA certification (or are in the process of getting certified).

  • Experience in technology or telecom industry.

  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards.

  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management.
