Purpose of the role:

Working closely with Product Owners,Product Managers and other stakeholders the Senior BA elicits, interprets anddocuments proposed changes to systems and processes so as to reflect andsupport ELT's evolving business strategies and initiatives.

The post holder engages with ELT'sinternal and external delivery partners to facilitate timely and appropriateimplementation of change.

In conjunction with an evolving cadreof product owners, business analysts and project managers, the Senior BAdevelops, implements and continually improves a stakeholder engagement model;where appropriate he or she manages and coaches a pool of business analysts towork within that framework.

Key Accountabilities:

●Supports the Product Owner ineliciting and documenting functional requirements using interviews, modelling,workshops, etc for all system components including:

  • NGMEL platform

  • Compose integration

  • Learnosity integration

  • Rumba integration

  • Saltare integration

oeBook integration

  • Productisation and workflows

●Elicits non-functional requirementsin relation to:

  • Deployment/hosting andscalability/capacity

  • Required levels of performance

  • Data archiving and backups

  • Help and support needs

  • Data migration, standards andinteroperability

  • Compatibility and localisation

●Employs appropriate modellingtechniques and artefacts in order to analyse and agree proposed improvementsand initiatives e.g.

  • UML or similar artefacts such as butnot limited to

▪use cases

▪users stories

▪activity diagrams

oprocess models such as As-is/To-be

  • Agile and iterative techniques

▪user personas

▪storyboards, wireframes and other UCDoutputs

●Work closely with productmanagement and sprint teams,contributing to the following:

othe pre-planning, detailed planning,monitoring and reviews of features delivered in a sprint cycle

oadoption and improvement tocontinuous integration and continuous deployment

oextending the use of techniques suchas

●Collaborate with ELT and LTGtechnical teams to reflect the overall technical vision in accordance withcustomer requirements, usability and performance needs

●Assist in establishing a recognisedcadre of business analysts who will work

consistently and effectively within Pearson ELT, seeking to improve techniquesand skillets

●Understanding, interpreting andexpressing business requirements in such a way as to be understood by technicaland non-technical stakeholders

●Moving towards frequent, high-valuereleases of feature sets within an organisation which is accustomed to annualor bi-annual release cycles

●Demonstrable understanding ofanalysis techniques, and their use in at least one recognised developmentprocess such as RUP

●Skills in the processes and toolsetsused within an Agile framework

●Modelling skills: ability to producthigh-quality, unambiguous artefacts that can be understood by key stakeholders

●Communication: ability to articulatetechnical and functional issues to a range of colleagues and third parties witha wide variety of technical understanding

●Collaboration and teamwork: abilityto work effectively and flexibly with a variety of internal and externalstakeholders

●Process: understand modern, iterativesoftware product development processes

●Quality: understand how qualityassurance can be ensured within a regime of high-throughput softwaredevelopment

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential:

●Qualified to degree level orequivalent

●ISEB certification or equivalent in Business Analysis or IS Consultancy

Desirable:

●Agile Product Owner certification

Previous Experience

Essential:

●Experience of formal softwaredevelopment processes

●Has worked in a software developmentprojects that used an agile and/or iterative approach

●Minimum 5 years experience as abusiness analyst

●Experience of leading and mentoringteams of analysts

●Strategic business analysis orconsultancy

●Scoping and high-level estimating

●Planning, scheduling and budgetmanagement.

●Excellent organisational andcommunication skills

●Experience of running onlinee-learning platform and/or publishing development projects.

Desirable:

●ELT experience

IT Literacy

Essential:

●MS Project, Word, Excel, Powerpoint,Visio

●Use of modelling tools such asRational Rose, CaseWise

●Comfortable using Jira-Greenhopper,Rally or other planning/backlog management tools
