Charles Schwab Investment Management (CSIM) is the asset management arm of the Charles Schwab Corporation, and has over $300 billion under management in mutual funds and ETFs. Products managed include a wide variety of active and indexed equity, fixed income, and asset allocation strategies, as well as money markets funds. CSIM uses a consistent and disciplined approach to investing across all our products and seeks to develop innovative new products to meet the core investing needs of our clients.

The Sr. Manager, Vendor Oversight, plays an essential role within CSIM by providing business partners with vendor management expertise for our strategic vendors. The CSIM Vendor Oversight team plays a strategic role in interfacing with CSIM vendors to optimize business value and support compliance with Corporate and CSIM standards. This is an individual contributor position.

What you’ll do:

This position will be responsible for developing, maintaining and executing vendor strategic plans; managing all aspects of the contracting lifecycle; as well as collaborating with risk groups and legal, as required, on vendor engagements.

Key activities for this manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the day to day management of CSIM strategic vendors including:

  • Negotiation of new agreements and renewals as well as managing the end to end contract process

  • Relationship management and due diligence/vendor oversight for all strategic vendors in scope

  • Provide guidance and input to all CSIM business users regarding vendor capabilities

  • Develop strategic plan for all strategic vendors for long term efficiencies

  • Work with internal stakeholders to determine risks and dependencies, and work with Finance, CSIM and Corporate Legal and Corporate Vendor Management to ensure that that Schwab risk is mitigated.

  • Engage with business stakeholders in CSIM, and provide leadership and direction on vendor contracts and performance

  • Provide analysis of vendor proposals and various internal management inquiries regarding for vendor expenditures or potential expenditures.

  • Participate or lead special projects driven by changing business requirements or strategic direction.

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to more junior members within the CSIM Vendor Oversight team as well as the wider CSIM team.

What you have:

  • 7+ years of experience in vendor management or strategic sourcing required.

  • Experience working in the financial industry or other regulated environment preferred.

  • Experience with indirect vendor contracts, categories and vendors required.

  • General knowledge of market data vendor category plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to influence, build consensus, integrate multiple streams of information and have a proven track record of building effective working relationships with senior level business partners.

  • Self-starter, able to manage multiple projects and succeed in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with minimal direction

  • High level of interpersonal and analytical skills, with a proven capability to make contributions to teams and initiatives

  • High level of attention to detail with the ability to identify issues and react and resolve them quickly

  • Proficiency in Excel (required) and experience with PowerPoint, Ariba, Hiperos, PeopleSoft and/or Access is a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree required
