Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Safety, Aviation Safety, Human Factors, or related field; or equivalent combination and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Eight (8) years related industrial safety, environmental, human factors, and/or SMS related program experience, to include three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Plan, implement and coordinate health, safety, and environmental programs to eliminate and minimize occupational accidents, illnesses and financial losses. Responsible for all matters associated with the site Safety Management System (SMS). Meet corporate goals and requirements and governmental regulations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions: 1. Work closely with all management facility wide to achieve implementation of environmental, safety and loss control activities. 2. Plan and implement accident prevention and loss control systems to reduce all accidental occurrences and associated costs. 3. Coordinate and administer the site SMS including risk identification, assessment, control and all reporting requirements. Monitors and institutes compliance programs to conform to regulatory requirements. 4. Devise methods to evaluate safety program, coordinate comprehensive injury analysis and facilitate development of safety improvement plans. 5. Develop and monitor budgetary expense for Environmental, Health and Safety Department to ensure maximum cost efficiency. 6. Maintain liaison with outside organizations such as fire departments, emergency response units and internal response plans to ensure information exchange and mutual assistance for emergency situations. 7. Supervise activities of the EHS staff to facilitate development of environmental, health and safety improvement programs; make personnel decisions and recommendations as necessary. 8. Facilitate and support various safety and environmental committees as needed. 9. Work with the facilities organization to ensure outside contractors are adequately briefed in company policies and procedures before beginning of any projects on company site. 10. Oversee occupational health staff in the areas of workers compensation, accident reporting, drug screening and OSHA recordkeeping requirements. 11. Advise in the development and updating of job safety analysis. 12. Remain current with new safety management techniques and industry best practices.
Additional Functions: 1. Dotted line responsibility for EHS staff at remote sites. 2. Work with corporate safety to develop and implement corporate policies and procedures. 3. Work with other site EHS managers to share information and communicate challenges and opportunities. 4. Perform other duties as assigned.
