Eaton Corporation Lead Engine Simulation Engineer in Marshall, Michigan
Eaton Corporation has an opening for a Lead Engine Simulation Engineer within its Industrial Sector Modeling and Simulation Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE). The Lead Engine Simulation Engineer can be based out of Southfield, MI, Galesburg, MI or Marshall, MI.
Eaton is looking for an engineer with an expressed interest or work experience related to the design, analysis, or testing of internal combustion engines or engine components. This Lead Engineer will be responsible for utilizing 1D powertrain simulation tools to evaluate and optimize the performance of engine components and systems, as well as the integration of engine components and systems, into OEM powertrain applications. The Lead Engineer will utilize 1D software tools, including GT Power, to evaluate the performance of Eaton engine air management technologies for multiple internal combustion engine cycles including spark ignition, compression ignition, Miller, etc. over a variety of operating conditions and drive cycles.
Create, refine, correlate, and run 1-dimensional engine and powertrain models.
Conduct engine simulation to evaluate and optimize the performance of Eaton engine components and systems, including but not limited to intake boosting devices, valvetrains, and exhaust energy recovery systems.
Characterize the effects of Eaton components on powertrain performance, fuel economy, and emissions. Demonstrate the value potential of Eaton components and systems using engine and powertrain simulation.
Size Eaton components, and pulley ratios, to optimize the performance of Eaton components and systems for specific customer engine applications.
Propose and evaluate powertrain integration approaches/strategies to optimize performance, efficiency, and emissions.
Directly engage and partner with business unit product teams and stakeholders. Understand and manage product team and stakeholder expectations. Summarize and deliver analysis results in written reports and summary presentations to stakeholders and sponsors. Regularly communicate progress and results to project teams and stakeholders.
Plan, manage, execute, and lead modeling and simulation projects to achieve specific project objectives within agreed budget and schedules. Manage, lead, and effectively collaborate with project teams.
Generate and win support for new project proposals.
Plan, manage, and lead the IC Engine knowledge area within the Vehicle Group Modeling and Simulation CoE maturity model.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in the design, testing, or analysis of powertrain or engine components.
Sponsorship is not available for this role. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without company sponsorship.
Experience in the design, testing, or analysis of internal combustion engines or engine components.
Master’s degree in Mechanical or Systems Engineering
Knowledge of engine air management systems and associated design considerations.
Understanding of internal combustion engine cycles and variants including spark-ignition, compression-ignition, Miller, etc.
Experience in the analysis or testing of intake boosting devices (e.g turbochargers or superchargers).
Familiarity with 1-D engine and powertrain modeling tools.
Experience in managing and conducting engineering projects. Experience in writing technical reports and delivering technical presentations.
Must demonstrate strong initiative, innovative spirit, and drive for results. Good written, verbal, and documentation skills required. Good interpersonal and teaming skills required.
