Job Description

The mission of our Laboratories' Administrative Director is to plan, organize, direct and oversee the development and operations of clinical and pathology laboratories in support of patient services. You must be able to coordinate the resources of multiple administrative disciplines and functions of the Hospital in order to fulfill programmatic directions and goals. This will include marketing strategy, physician referral relations, patient satisfaction targets and related measures to achieve total quality improvement. You must also be able to ensure the continual efficient and compliant operational performance of the department and all related areas of Laboratory Medicine and Anatomic Pathology.

Responsibilities Include:

  1. Directs activities including growth objectives, space allocation, procurement of technological equipment, laboratory contracting, data planning, developing goals and subsequent implementation, capital requirements and desired outcomes of programs.

  2. Serves as a liaison with Administration in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating operations.

  3. Develops and monitors budgets.

  • Prepares operations, labor and capital annual budgets. Monitors budgets and explains encountered variances.

  • Structures the appropriate flow of data to insure timely and appropriate management of clinical and financial issues.

  • Forecasts revenue trends and expense analyses. Keeps abreast of all billing, coding and reimbursement related issues as they apply to the laboratories and staff education in regard to related changes.

  1. Selects, develops, manages and evaluates direct reports; and oversees the selection, development, management and evaluation of indirect reports.

  2. Develops objectives, policies and procedures to ensure the efficient operation of laboratories. Continually refines developed policies, as needed.

  3. Answers questions that arise when dealing with patients, physicians, or any matters regarding laboratories.

  4. Ensures compliance with all JCAHO, NYSDOH, CAP, AABB, rules and regulations.

  • Monitors program components relative to criteria declared by regulatory agencies.

  • Keeps abreast of and addresses changes in various regulatory agency standards and/or public health law and ensures Policy and Procedure Manuals are updated (after appropriate review with clinical and/or administrative personnel).

  • Oversees clinical laboratories preparation for inspections and is responsible for establishing inspection-readiness of laboratories.

  1. Plays an active role in departmental strategic planning and coordination of departmental operations across multiple sites. Contributes to system-based management of laboratories.

  2. Participates in various committees assigned by Administration and takes an active role in developing policies coming out of such participation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, required. Masters Degree, preferred.

  • Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Pathologist Assistant or Cytotechnologist.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible related experience including specialized knowledge of related theory, principles, practices, applicable instrumentation, analytical methods, quality control, statistical analysis and current government regulations.
