Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a highly talented Mechanical Engineer to work in the New Orleans, LA office. This position is contingent upon contract award with an anticipated hire date in August 2017.

Position Description or Typical Responsibilities:

  • Works under general supervision of lead engineer on industrial design projects and complete assignments of moderate to advanced complexity

  • Develops of equipment and construction specifications, technical reports, and drawings

  • Sizes basic process equipment including pumps, tanks, and piping components

  • Prepares and check technical calculations

  • Utilizes basic CAD sketching tools

  • Utilizes basic technical software including hydraulics and pipe stress

  • Reviews engineering drawings and equipment vendor drawings/data

  • Collects data and information in regards to technical and economic factors relating to mechanical engineering tasks

  • Assists with development of manpower, manhour, and labor cost requirements for a project and can monitor them to aid in evaluating project schedule and budget.

  • Provides technical guidance to less experienced engineering staff

  • Perform material take-offs

  • Works to maintain positive working relationships with peer leaders

  • Builds productive relationships with organizations in and external to engineering

Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a four year accredited college or university


  • Minimum of 2 years of mechanical engineering experience performing mechanical engineering for industrial plant design projects

  • Previous experience preparing equipment and piping specifications

  • Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) or ability to obtain one

  • Due to the nature of the work, candidate must be a US Citizen

  • Must be able to obtain Personal Identification Verification (PIV) which complies with Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD‐12.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 + years of mechanical engineering experience

  • FE (EIT) certificate

  • Experience in design, maintenance, or operations of equipment and piping in power plants, chemical plants, or oil & gas facilities preferred

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
