Transdev Railroad Track Repairer/Laborer in New Orleans, Louisiana

Inspects, removes, repairs or replaces parts and components of the rail system.
Installs and removes various parts or assemblies used on rail.
Installs ballast and crosstie for roadbeds.
Performs removal and application of rail fasteners, bolted joints and other hardware.
Performs track leveling, lining and gauge adjustment.
Performs repair, demolition, and replacement of concrete embedded track and crossings.
Installs and repairs railroad track and embankments, to include special track work, road crossings, signage, and rail lubricators.
Repairs specialty equipment to include spike pullers, spike drivers, tie adze, hydraulic rail jacks, power wrenches, tie boring machines, rail drills, rail grinders, rail saws and highway trucks; by using hand and power tools, and a wide variety of sizes and types of track machines.
Replace ties, rails, fasteners, special track work components, crushed rock ballast, crossing surfaces, paving, sub grade material, vegetation, signs and structures.
Other duties as required.
Education, Licensing, and Certifications :
High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, preferred.
Must possess a driver’s license with a good driving record.
2-3 years experience in railroad track construction and/or maintenance with two (2) years experience as a track maintenance worker using various machines for railroad construction or maintenance work in an operating railroad environment
Previous experience with heavy construction equipment such as backhoe, dump truck, boom truck, bobcat, truck and trailer, will be considered.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
Knowledge of safe and proper procedures for operating required railroad equipment stated above
Knowledge of safe and efficient manipulation of equipment and tools to perform construction and maintenance tasks
Knowledge of Federal Track Safety Standards (FTSS) and Federal Railroad Workers Safety (FRWS), and the ability to be qualified on examination for Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations, CFR Part 213.7 of FTSS and the General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR) related to these regulations within four weeks of start date
Ability to complete work under time pressures and to maintain composure under stress of emergency situations
Ability to perform scheduled and unscheduled repair or construction work at any time, on any day of the week
Ability to communicate, both written and verbal in English
Ability to follow oral and written instructions with minimal supervision
Ability to read, interpret and apply documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to safely and efficiently operate railroad maintenance hand and power tools and railroad maintenance equipment
Ability to read blue prints, schematics, and other mechanical diagrams
Ability to read and write routine reports, forms, and other documentation or correspondence
Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details
Travel requirement (as a percent): 100% in the field
Must submit to drug testing and a background check
Must maintain a DOT medical card
Must have or obtain within six weeks of start date, a valid driver’s license with no more than three moving violation and no DUI’s within the last three years
Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
Must be available nights, weekends and holidays
Must be able to work in the safety critical environments associated with operation of a rail system.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to lift objects weighing a minimum of 50 lbs. and must have the ability to distinguish colors and to hear warning signals and radio and telephone devices
Must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces while working.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions. May be exposed to water, fumes, and chemicals.
