Transdev Transportation Planner ll in New Orleans, Louisiana


The Planning Department at the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority is seeking a Transportation Planner ll. This individual will play a pivotal role on the team by serving as project manager and deputy project manager on high profile projects. In addition, this individual will collaborate with other departments in the organization in order to identify solutions to internal and external challenges.


  • Serve as Project Manager and/or Deputy Project Manager for assigned projects and studies, overseeing the work effort.

  • Assist in the management of consultants and contractors

  • Monitor, review, and contribute to the maintenance and updating of transit elements of the regional short and long range transportation plan.

  • Coordinate with local and regional planning partners and stakeholders

  • Manage tasks and resources, identify challenges and solutions

  • Prepare documents and reports for internal and external purposes

  • Other duties as required.


Education, Licensing, and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Engineering or education equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with coursework in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or a combination of experience and training to the equivalent.

  • AICP and/or PE required

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of ten years of experience in transit or urban planning, or related fields.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Ability to work independently without supervision.

  • Ability to interact effectively with management, staff, and others outside the agency.

  • Knowledge of software applications for producing reports.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Strong verbal communication skills, including presentation, facilitation, and listening skills

Skills and Knowledge Preferred:

  • Transit planning and service planning

  • Project management

  • Familiarity with federal regulations pertaining to public transportation

  • Familiarity with project development process, including the NEPA process

  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Must submit to drug testing, physical examination, and a criminal background check

Physical Requirements:

  • 100% of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities

  • Work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.

  • The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
