Coordinator, Pediatric Palliative Care APRN or currently enrolled in an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program

General Description: The Coordinator of Pediatric Palliative Care will coordinate services of the Pediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT) at the Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma. The PACT is an interdisciplinary team with expertise in pediatric palliative care that strives to relieve suffering and improve quality of life for children with life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses.

Essential Functions/Duties: * The Pediatric Palliative Care Coordinator provides direct patient care services under the guidance of the supervisory physician and PICU Director to neonatal and pediatric patients requiring care coordination, symptom management or end of life care. In collaboration with other PACT members, the PACT Coordinator will help coordinate the activities of the interdisciplinary palliative care team; aid in symptom management for hospitalized palliative and/or home/hospice patients using non-pharmacologic techniques; facilitate family care conferences; serve as a liaison with all other involved services; work with area hospice agencies to coordinate care; help coordinate bereavement services; and participate in the program’s educational, research and advocacy activities.

  • The PACT Coordinator performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, recommends appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services.

  • The Pediatric Palliative Care APRN contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership in the organization. Supports team building and group facilitation to meet established goals. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, expertise in symptom management, and comfort in providing end-of-life care for patients with complex medical conditions is essential for this role.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; Master’s degree preferred;Candidates currently enrolled in Accredited Nurse Practitioner program highly preferred. Experience:A minimum of three years-experiences in the clinical care of patients with complex medical problems facing end-of-life issues. Position requires demonstrated competency in pain, stress, and other symptom management. Certifications/Registrations Required:Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Oklahoma.
