Job Summary : Performs cardiac ultrasound procedures including, transthoracic, transesophageal, stress echo (treadmill or pharmacological), cardiac Doppler and color flow Doppler. Prepares and administers cardiac contrast agents as needed. Responsible for performing quality echocardiographic exams. Enters echocardiographic data into structured reporting template and prepares paperwork for physician interpretation. Responsible for high-level disinfection and sterilization of TEE probes. Maintaining ultrasound equipment. Documents required data. Assumes the responsibilities specified by the Technical Director for ICAEL. Must maintain required CMEs per ICAEL standards and credentialing body. Maintains annual competencies and training. Able to work varying assignments, adapts to schedule changes as needed including call shifts and call back. Follows policies and procedures of West Florida Hospital. Participates in the Quality Improvement process and adheres to WFH standards of behavior.

Essential Functions : Manages stress appropriately and makes decisions under pressure. Able to handle and prioritize multiple tasks. Able to work alone with long periods of standing, sitting, bending, stooping, walking, stretching, pushing equipment. Communicates well with physicians and coworkers regarding patient care and safety. Good bedside manner for interacting with patients. Must be familiar with basic cardiac conditions in order to recognize and identify abnormalities.

Education : Vocational or technical education required. Must hold an appropriate credential in echocardiography. Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or Canadian Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CRCS) from Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP) are accepted credentials.

Experience : A minimum of one (1) year experience as a cardiac ultrasound technician is preferred.

Skills/Abilities : Proficiency with cardiac ultrasound equipment is required. Basic computer skills are required. Organizational, critical thinking, interpersonal, customer relations, and communication skills are required.
