What you’ll be doing...
Want to build more awesome? Verizon is looking for Project Managers to create and execute project plans to keep a wide variety of diverse initiatives on track and on budget. You would be joining the Engineering Practices & Platform team, whose responsibility it is to execute an exciting new program; Verizon Innovation Acceleration (VzIA). This program drives organization-wide engineering and cultural transformation through (1) establishment of permanent accelerated learning centers (Dojos), (2) establishment and execution of events and activities to grow internal community, (3) growing external brand including sponsoring and speaking at external conferences and establishing an open source project, and (4) reorienting our organizational structure to optimize on outcome vs. activities. For example, your projects could include planning, leading and supporting the role out of our first open source effort, or organizing an internal DevOps Day event in a remote location. The team is also responsible for the building, staffing and ongoing management of 3 internal accelerated learning centers (Dojos).
Candidate must be comfortable leading by influence rather than positional power. Support the strategic direction the project manager establishes and use it to guide the decisions you make. Bring enthusiasm and persistence and the willingness to learn business and technical needs/trends. In this role, you will work closely with the Project Manager as well as technical and business staff, at all levels of the organization, to transform the way Verizon works.
·Support project efforts from inception to completion
·Create and foster strong relationships with all partners
·Become an expert on your respective projects
·Communicate up, down and across the organization effectively
·Be an evangelist for DevOps, Cloud and Engineering Culture
·Create/Manage documentation using collaboration and project tools such as Crowd Around, Jira / Confluence, HipChat, etc.
·Track any work associated with the team or project, ensuring that timelines and deadlines are effectively met
·Consult with senior business and technology leaders to provide solutions to business challenges and opportunities by applying critical thinking and problem solving skills
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience
Fouror more years of relevant work experience
Even better if you have:
·Advanced techno-functional skills; able to comprehend complex technical concepts and convey them to less technical partners
·Effective interpersonal and team building capabilities
·Willing to challenge the status quo, in the appropriate settings and providing compelling evidence
·Demonstrated excellent verbal, written, analytical and communication skills
·Experience in collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders
·Ability to report to multiple stakeholders in a timely and effective manner through both meetings and presentations
·Demonstrated excellent problem solving skills
·Experience in Software Development/Engineering practices
·Proven track record of leadership of project accomplishments including successful projects
