Kaiser Permanente ACCOUNTANT ANALYST-Research and Development; Financial Services, (Center for Health) in Portland, Oregon
To prepare the financial close to the general ledger for multiple projects and to analyze and advise in ensuring grant funds are spent according to federal guidelines.
Essential Responsibilities: - Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and invoices for federal grants and contracts and other projects. - Assist in preparation of financial statements and other financial reports. Prepare special reports as needed. - Maintain financial records, including general ledger and subsidiary ledgers. Prepare journal entries and review data for reasonableness. - Review and code incoming invoices and expense report accounts for validity, propriety, proper authorization, and allowability; research and resolve discrepancies; recommend or initiate corrective action when necessary. - Perform periodic A/R analysis and pursue collection of past due amounts. - Assist in administering training programs to CHR staff. - Collaborate with CHR purchasing manager to assure purchases comply with federal procurement regulations. - Review clinical research charges posted in HealthConnect to ensure accuracy and compliance with study requirements and government regulations; research and resolve discrepancies; notify coding and billing departments of the accuracy of the charges or appropriate modifications.
Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Experience - Minimum one (1) year of experience in non-profit fund accounting including experience with federal accounting and federal guidelines. - Minimum one (1) year general accounting experience including financial statement preparation, analysis, and review. Education - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration with an emphasis in accounting OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field. - High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. License, Certification, Registration - N/A
Additional Requirements: - Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and their application. - Working knowledge of federal grant regulations. - Ability to work with a number of different projects requiring application of federal accounting principles. - Good organizational & problem solving skills. - Proficient in verbal & written communication. - Ability to work well independently or as part of a team. - Proficient with personal computers spreadsheets (MS Excel) and automated financial data processing systems.
Preferred Qualifications: - Minimum two (2) years of progressive general accounting experience including financial statement preparation, analysis, and review in non-profit accounting - Experience with federal accounting or other federal guidelines. - Master's degree in accounting, CPA (Certified Public Accountant), or CIA (Certified Internal Auditor). - Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. - Working knowledge of Kaiser accounting systems. - Advanced knowledge of EXCEL spreadsheet program and ACCESS database program.
