Eaton’s Corporate Research and Technology opened a position for a

Senior Power Switching Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute as an expert, technical leader and team member in technology development projects in the area of power electronics and power system protection.

  • Create innovative concepts for circuit interruption, fault detection, and protection components coordination for use in electrical and commercial applications.

  • Contribute in the team to all technology development phases: research, modeling and simulation, hardware design and algorithm development and implementation.

  • Observe and evaluate available and novel technologies, electronic components and tools.

  • Collaborate on innovation and commercialization of technologies communicating with research institutions, customers, and business partners.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • MS or Ph.D. degree in the field of electrical engineering, power electronics, power conversion, power systems

  • Work experience in power electronics or power conversion, including creating specifications, designing technical solution concepts, and building and testing prototypes to validate models/hypotheses

  • Experience in power electronic packaging techniques; understanding of the effects of parasitic capacitance/inductance on circuit performance and techniques for its minimization, familiarity with voltage creepage and clearance requirements and various insulation and interconnection techniques; familiarity with various power electronic component cooling techniques.

  • Experience in circuit design and component selection

  • Experience with laboratory measurement and test arrangement (such as scopes, DAQ, etc.)

  • Fluent English

Preferred Specialized Knowledge:

  • Good knowledge in designing hybrid power switching applications in low voltage switchgear

  • Good knowledge in designing power supplies and/or frequency converters

  • Good knowledge of circuit’s and power systems simulation tools (for example P-Spice, LT-Spice, Multisim, MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, Simplorer etc.)

  • Experience with power distribution system design and protection
