SUMMARY Provides on-site support for the reprocessing of surgical instruments and trays to contracted facilities in compliance with the Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards and facilities goals and policies. Identifies, disassembles, cleans and correctly reassembles instruments used for various surgical procedures.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES • Perform instrument processing functions according to written Standard Operating Procedures. • Identify, disassemble, clean and correctly reassemble instruments used for various surgical procedures. • Verify and accurately document missing instruments according to written SOPs. • Ensure that each instrument is in good working order prior to placing in tray for OR use. • Assembles and maintains accurate peel pack inventory. • Pick procedural case carts in accordance with the OR schedule, including medications in accordance of procedure pick tickets. • Ensure personal performance efficiency and quality criteria are maintained. • Knowledgeable of steam, VHP (Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide) and ETO (Ethylene Oxide) sterilization, hand and automatic washer operation and that of other related Central Sterilization unit equipment. • Effectively interface with Operating Room personnel and others as appropriate. • Keep work area neat and clean. • Make recommendations to management for possible improvement. • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

EXPERIENCE Relevant experience preferred. Some knowledge of how various instruments are used during surgical procedures preferred. .

EDUCATION High school diploma or GED required. Associates degree preferred. Instrument Technician Certification required through either IAHCSMM or CBSPD preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES • Quality-oriented. • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of a hospital, including Operating Room staff. • Detail-oriented. • Must have good manual dexterity. • Able to multitask. • Operation of personal computer including corporate software (PRMS). • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers. • Ability to read and understand applicable Standard Operating Procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None

WORKING CONDITIONS Normal work conditions will vary and will include exposure to office, sterile processing department, and operating room environments. Will come into contact with blood and body fluids. Must be willing and able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate to the work environment. PPE may include gloves, liquid proof gowns, and face protection. This list is not all inclusive. Requires vaccinations in accordance with hospital guidelines. Requirements will vary by client location.
