Kaiser Permanente Sr Materials Cost Specialist in Redwood City, California
Functioning more independently than the journey level Materials Cost Specialist, assists with the management of non-perioperative materials cost containment. Maintains the inventory control system and database. Ensures compliance with Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) agreements. Responsible for contributing to achieving all Service Area and National Contracting and Purchasing (NCAP) cost savings goals. Works with the local Labor Management Partnership representative to identify and achieve cost savings and implement safety products. Essential Functions: - Takes a lead role in the development and maintenance of a non-perioperative materials purchasing strategy that is consistent with the overall national sourcing strategy to ensure KP receives the best value for dollars spent on products and services. - Supports Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) agreements and NCAP goals including: Transacts contracts through the appropriate purchasing channels (e Procurement or One Link). - Conducts trend analysis and compliance monitoring. - Recommends changes, additions and deletions to contracts; Provides contract implementation support to the Product Support Team. - Advises and alerts NCAP and GPO of new services that will require new products and, thus, new contracts. - Insures that all Internal Audit Controls are followed. Identifies and implements Product Utilization savings projects. - Analyzes and organizes key information necessary for the Materials Manager to build the annual budget. - Conducts research into and recommends corrective action to supply cost variances. - Maintains the inventory control system and database, with responsibility for the daily management of information systems processing requirements for administering supplies, equipment and services transactions and requests. - Proactively works with the Local Product Councils and the Labor Management Partnership to comply with national standards, to trend spend; to meet budgets, and to identify cost savings opportunities. - This position may supervise and/or manage staff, including intervieiwing, hiring, terminating, training, motivating, reward and recognition, performance reviews, development plans, and corrective action as needed. (Staff may include both represented and non-represented personnel with responsibilities for purchasing, receiving, and inventory accuracy.) - Reviews workflows and makes recommendations for work assignments - Other duties as assigned. - Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis. Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Experience - Minimum five (5) years of experience in combination of purchasing, contracting, supply chain management or other related areas, including previous experience with systems management and inventory control of $5MM+ annual spend. Education - Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, material management, economics or related field; OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field. - High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. License, Certification, Registration - N/A
Additional Requirements: - Proficient in a variety of software applications with the ability to develop complex spreadsheets and write business communications. - Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience in a healthcare environment preferred. - Experience working in a union environment preferred. - Professional certification such as a Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) preferred. - Significant knowledge of products/services and their market environment within the scope of Kaiser Permanente's procurement and logistics programs preferred.
