Job Description:

The Network Services team at Bank of America designs, builds and operates one of the world’s largest enterprise networks. We provide connectivity to over 340,000 personal computers, 75,000 services in 33 data centers and provide on-line access to millions of customers and counter parties.

The strategy and architecture team is the senior technical group in Network Services and is responsible for developing strategies and architectures relating to the design, deployment and management of the Bank of America network and its associated and underlying technologies.

Strategy, Architecture and Governance influence the overall technology strategy by helping define innovative solutions required to operate large scale, highly available global network which is undergoing a transformation to a highly virtualized, fully automated Software Defined Infrastructure.

We are seeking a strategy and governance lead to manage the development and maintenance of the technical roadmap and blueprints for Bank of America’s data network and to oversee the transition of our network governance processes to ensure we can effectively manage and control an agile, software defined, API enabled, programmable network architecture. The strategy and governance lead will also ensure bank wide strategic alignment of a number of major programs, including the redesign of our core network, deployment of software defined networks and automation, private cloud deployment and modernization of our branch infrastructure.

Candidates will possess a broad knowledge across compute, network, storage, and security disciplines and have a “big picture” vision.

Location is preferred in New York due to proximity with senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities of Network Architects are as follows:

  • Define Bank of America’s global enterprise network strategy and ensuring that the end to end strategy aligns to business and technology goals.

  • Establish governing principles for network design, deployment and operations.

  • Establish governance routines for managing, prioritizing and funding BAU, Project and Initiative work.

  • Establish and maintain the master book of work and commitment plan for the network team.

  • Develop governance routines for architectural and strategic alignment across the bank.

  • Develop design principles, models, plans, internal standards, budgets, and processes based on industry best practices.

  • Work closely with cross functional architecture teams across multiple disciplines to gather and define network requirements to which network architectures will be required to meet.

  • Publish and present strategy white and position papers

  • Work closely with leaders of the internal product management groups to understand their strategic direction, business plans and product roadmaps.

  • Manage relationships and interaction with vendors and industry analysts.

  • Drive communication and collaboration with vendors, clients and members of the banks IT

  • Mange the delivery of network architecture documentation, standards and reference architecture documentation of all new design decisions for consumption by engineering, implementation, and operations teams

  • Develop the vision and architectural strategy plans for the banks global virtualized software defined infrastructure.

  • Build strong partnerships with line of business technical leadership teams as both a knowledgeable industry consultant to their business and as an advocate within the global technology infrastructure teams to drive commonality.

  • Work closely with business management to determine business process and productivity needs and an appropriate technology strategy to support business goals.

  • Work closely with finance to establish business cases for new investment and help to prioritize and optimize multi-hundred million dollar capital investments and expense lines.

  • Perform analytical, technical, cost analysis and CAPEX development work in the planning, design, installation and on-going administration and management of data networks.

  • Communicate the role and value of the network to the organization and present the business case for technology investments.

  • Continually update understanding of business and technology status and objectives and respond to strategic design requests as the business evolves.

This role is of critical importance to ensuring that the bank’s network strategy is documented and syndicated across key stakeholders. The qualifications for the role are necessarily demanding.

Successful candidates will:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred - preferably in economics, business management, computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics or a related field.

  • Have excellent communication skills with a proven track record of presenting at the most senior levels within the enterprise and the network industry.

  • Are likely to have contributed to the relevant standards bodies (e.g. IETF, ITU-T OIF and TMF).

  • Have an in-depth understanding of business strategy and ability to interact effectively with senior business managers and C-level executives.

  • Have a minimum of 10 years’ experience designing, developing, configuring, and implementing large scale global enterprise networks with diverse solutions from multiple vendors.

  • Have previously been responsible for product management, architecture, or implementation of a very large scale network deployment or technology transformation within a global financial institution or major service provider.

  • Have experience in introducing new products and services.

  • Be familiar with ITIL and ITSM deployments.

  • Be a leader and role model with experience of working in and managing diverse teams.

  • Possess good financial acumen and be able to develop business cases for the introduction of new services

  • Be creative, courageous and prepared to challenge the status quo.

  • Security & Perimeter - Firewalls, Tradeplant, DMZ construct, Cloud Connect, Remote Access, Internet Services, Business to Business

  • Campus & Branch - Wireless, LTE, ATM, Campus, Branch

  • Access/Identity Management - Authentication, Authorization and Accounting, NAC

  • DDI - DHCP, DNS, IPAM

  • Automation - ITIL, Source Code Management, CI/CD Methodology, Agile, Automation (Jenkins, Rundeck, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.), Java, C++, Python, Perl

  • Testing and Certification - Performance and Stress Testing, Functional testing and design verification, Proof of concept, Traffic generation, error and latency simulation
