Job Description

Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Group Leader position reports to the area Manufacturing Supervisor. The Group Leader is primarily responsible for maintaining the flow of people, material and information in their assigned area. They are expected to respond quickly to any interruptions in any of the three flows, and to work to restore the flow as quickly as possible, provided safety and quality can be maintained. If they encounter problems they are not able to resolve, the are expected to quickly escalate the problem to the appropriate person (Supervisor) or group.

The Group Leader is further expected to lead efforts to reduce waste in their respective areas, by identifying and implementing changes to minimize the 7 wastes (Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Overproduction, Overprocessing, Defects) through PPI.

The Group Leader will also be responsible for participating in a roating schedule for weekend coverage.

Lastly, the Group Leader is expected to develop the capabilities of the Team Leaders and Associates on their teams. This includes but is not limited to ensuring their team has the required depth of production skills, quality/inspection skills and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities :

  • Safety/People:

  • Daily assignment of Value Stream labor to execute production schedule.

  • Lead Team Leaders and Operators in support of the Value Stream by respecting production standards (procedures and specifications) in the manufacturing operation.

  • Re-assign Operators as needed during shift to meet production demands.

  • Communicate with Value Stream Setup, QC, Auto-setup and Supervisors as required to maintain production requirements.

  • Training and coaching employees as necessary – One Minute Lessons.

  • Handle PPE requests - glasses, shoes.

  • Review and approve PTO requests (excluding beginning of year requests).

  • Provide input to Supervisor on operator and Team Lead performance and behavior throughout year including for PMDs (Mid-year and Yearend).

  • Weekly completion of “Learning to See” cards to include follow-up with ideas for improvement. To include: - Identify AND correct 4 safety items in 2017. - Lead 1 safety topic discussion each quarter during shift communication

  • Support Supervisor as backup for shift communication meeting. Responsibility to include: - Leading the stretching (1 week each quarter). - Auditing morning 5S initiatives. - Leading “Other “discussions during morning communication meeting.

  • Confirm Team Leaders weekly completion of “Learning to See cards” and daily Team Leaders Standard work.

  • Compile and send out VS Productivity report at end of shift in Supervisors absence

  • Update machine change over sheet for oncoming shift

  • Write MCP’s as needed to update procedures or processes

  • Quality:

  • Ensure shop floor conformance to procedures, standard work, and QWI's.

  • Confirm complete and correct information for cycle time and cavitation on day-by-hour boards.

  • Write QCF09 instruction for NCR rework when needed.

  • Audit in-process NCR rework for correct adherence to instructions.

  • Confirm Team Leaders completion of Count-Pack audits and particulate readings (if required).

  • Confirm daily completion of Master Control QWI’s for Team Members (no overdue QWI’s).

  • First Piece in and Move Ticket verification.

  • Line clearance and changeover procedures followed verification.

  • Confirm MQC Charts being used (If Applicable)

  • Delivery:

  • Respond to flow interruptions quickly.

  • Coordinate NCR rework, sorting, etc.

  • Work with operators to resolve material flow interruptions.

  • Complete lot files close out to include 100% compliance to quality requirements.

  • Level I and Level II understanding for Value Stream.

  • Participate in shift Gemba walk with Supervisor daily.

  • May need to provide relief for operators on machines as necessary.

  • Cost:

  • Input correct scrap into SAP.

  • Audit supermarket cycle counting for completion.

  • Verify correct SAP standards for labor.

  • Review end of shift inputs for correct data entry.

  • Write Temporary Standards if required for containment.

  • Bi-yearly participation in Penfield Inventory.

  • Communication with other Value Streams for excess/additional labor requirements.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

  • Must have current and/or previous Team Lead, Group Lead, Production Assistant, Cell Associate or Supervisor experience.

  • Must be willing and able to work weekends on a regular basis (estimated at equivalent to 1 weekend every 3-4 weeks).

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language.

  • Must be able to perform simple math such as add, subtract whole numbers.

  • Must have excellent hand/eye coordination skills, and the ability to lift and load pallets with weights up to 35 pounds.

  • Able to operate any machine or operation in Value Stream assigned.

  • Computer literate.

  • Experience with GMP/ISO procedures.

  • Experience working in a fast paced production environment.

  • Prior experience leading work force in lean manufacturing preferred.

  • Overtime as necessary.

  • Flexibility with shift schedule if needed.
