Director, Military Health System Business Development, Federal Programs - Position can be located in Oakland, CA or Burbank, CA or Rockville, MD

Accountable for cultivating strategic relationships and developing new business opportunities with key influencers and decision-makers overseeing the United States military healthcare system. The incumbent must also work effectively with leaders and functional areas across Kaiser Permanente to implement strategies that will establish and grow membership in the defense sector.

Essential Responsibilities: - Identify and explore opportunities for Kaiser Permanente to become a trusted advisor and health care provider for the U.S. military healthcare system by effectively navigating the political map, actively pursuing leads, and sharing compelling insights to influence the decision makers and demonstrate Kaiser Permanente's value proposition. Provide input and market intelligence into development of products, services, and pricing proposals targeted for the defense sector to ensure Kaiser Permanente's competitive position against incumbent carriers and other competitors. Serve as a subject matter expert on military healthcare programs. - Cultivate and manage Kaiser Permanente's relationship with key stakeholders in the military healthcare system by initiating, influencing and nurturing all aspects of the partnership. Manage relationships with external influencers in the U.S. government, political arena and channel partners who can advocate for Kaiser Permanente. - Establish an internal steering group and facilitate quarterly meetings to leverage key resources; develop a coordinated, collaborative go-to-market strategy and approach; and, guide the process toward achieving Kaiser Permanente's sustainable membership growth. Collaborate and build effective working relationships with Kaiser Permanente Government Relations as well as regional and functional leaders from Sales, Account Management, Pricing and Underwriting, Membership Administration, Products and other key internal partners; work with Physician Market Leaders and other care delivery experts to aid sales in closing new business. - Create and execute a sales strategy and a business development plan in collaboration with the internal steering group and effectively execute the plan to advance Kaiser Permanente's competitive position and growth objectives. Establish a roadmap for Kaiser Permanente to attain new business wins and expansion opportunities in the military healthcare arena.

Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Experience - Minimum ten (10) years of experience in a senior sales or business development role. - Minimum six (6) years of experience in healthcare/healthcare business planning or insurance industry or sales related industry. - Minimum five (5) years of experience in consultative selling or related client development work. Education - Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, political science, mathematics, statistics, or communications OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field. - High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED). License, Certification, Registration - N/A

Additional Requirements: - Excellent business development skills with the ability to effectively direct business development tasks in order to maximize revenues and profits. - In-depth knowledge of consultative sales principles and practices. Applies advanced principles, theories, and concepts. - Experience in developing C-level relationships at customer organizations and facilitating executive-level discussions. - Demonstrated ability to influence decision makers and stakeholders. Contributed to the development of innovative principles and ideas. - Application of strategic thinking, consultative selling and political mapping to demonstrate value proposition. - Ability to successfully navigate complex customer organizations and deal tactfully with prospective stakeholders throughout the sales stages/cycle. - Strong leadership skills and experience leading a comprehensive sales strategy from inception through execution. - Experience working with and driving influence with cross-functional teams in a large, matrixed organization. - Expert knowledge of health care industry and players. - Excellent communication, collaboration and facilitation skills, and ability to thrive in a team environment; effective negotiation and public relations skills; understanding of business operations; strong attention to detail, responsive, and strong follow-through; proven ability to work independently. - Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, political science, mathematics, statistics or communications. - Working knowledge of the defense industry and military healthcare programs. - Proven track record of building, mentoring, motivating and retaining a high performance sales team. - Demonstrated success in developing and managing long-term customer relationships.
