The Regional Sterile Processing Practice Consultant is responsible for directing the regional sterile processing quality program. The quality program includes all state and federal regulation standards for all the perioperative, sterile processing, and scope reprocessing areas across the Mid-Atlantic States region. This position is responsible for AR&L for AAAHC, CMS, and state and local health department standards and practices. This position serves as part of the Infection Prevention and Control Team and is responsible for assessing, designing, developing, administering, standardizing and measuring technical and performance requirements/skills for all instrument and scope processing across the region. Will act as a consultant to support all operating room (OR) internalization strategies. The position is also responsible for maintaining ongoing review and knowledge of new technologies and instrumentation selections that reduce costs improve quality of sterilization services or advance the quality of care to our members. This position will provide oversight on standards, practices, and education for all regional sterile processing and clinical departments.
Essential Responsibilities: - Coordinates and facilitates the development and revision of Regional Sterile Processing policies and procedures for acute and ambulatory care to meet organizational needs. As the sterile processing content expert advises the Surgical Services Leadership Team, Sterile Processing Departments, and clinical departments in developing and revising policies and procedures to meet evidenced based clinical or technological changes. Serves as a liaison to Surgical Services Leadership Team, Sterile Processing Departments, and Clinical Departments to ensure the standards for cleaning and processing instruments and equipment are met. Coordinate (at a minimum) monthly Regional SPD meetings with stakeholders (i.e Surgical Services Leadership, SPD, Infection Control). Serves as the MAS regional member of the National Sterilization Sourcing and Standards Team. In conjunction with Sterile Processing Admin team and site managers, generates recommendations for required space and technology applications. Consult on business strategies, service delivery planning and acquisitions that are or could be supported by Sterile Processing. Challenge practices and preferences of physicians, and OR managers that are out of compliance with clinical standards and agreements. Develop standardization plans for regional roll out including but not limited to: Regional tracking system, Immediate Use Sterilization, administrative practice, staff development, education, and training and other common practices. Will participate in the investigations of exposures and events which may have an impact on the safety of employees and/or members. Will participate in risk analysis to identify process gaps and improvement measures. - Assists regional management team with analyzing priorities (e.g., educational needs) using a shared decision making model including Sterile Processing administration team, Infection Control, acute and ambulatory managers and appropriate front line staff. Creates regional sterile processing program priorities. Develops regional standardized service delivery plan. Performs audits to identify gaps between performance standards and actual performance. Identifies work environment factors (both internal and external) that may impact performance. Identifies performance evaluation criteria/processes. Identifies educational and/or training strategies to impact performance. - Develops and implements clinical competency based program/products to improve knowledge, skills and competencies needed by employees to meet organizational needs Designs performs and analyzes needs assessments to include content research, task analysis, managers' and employees' needs, work environment, learning styles and constraints. Provide recommendations on innovative products that prove to bring efficiency and cost savings to the organization. Identifies innovative products/technology to bring quality, efficiency and cost savings to the organization and coordinates the implementation of new products/technology. Consults on curriculum and supporting processes to facilitate learning of employees. Evaluates the curriculum and supporting processes to improve performance, support career development and meet organizational needs. Develop and assist with the implementation of programs to meet current business imperatives and ever-changing corporate climate. Develop and assist with the implementation of regional standardized modern service delivery. - Directs Standards of Practice based on industry standards and regulation outlined in CMS, AAAHC, and state and local health department guidelines. Development and Implementation of performance monitoring tools to evaluate and monitor quality assurance processes across all sites. Conduct regular facility on-site audits and tracers for regulatory compliance. Develops appropriate monitoring tools that will assess and document initial and ongoing maintenance of clinical practice. Promotes electronic solutions in SPM data-base. Directs the education for all sites on optimizing the SPM tools. Supports and assists managers and sterile process supervisors in developing standardized effective processes to implement these tools and serves as a clinical expert to the managers. Provides input on the assessment of initial competencies to managers and assist in the development of work plans to improve performance as needed. - Serves as a member of the National Sterilization Sourcing and Standards Team, the Regional Infection Control Committee, and other committees as assigned. Set policy, design systems and processes, sponsor and manage national initiatives. Represent the MAS Region and actively participate in Program Office work related to sterile processing. Develop and or influence national strategy and provide linkage between local market and Program Office. - Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: Experience - Minimum three (3) years in a management or lead sterile processing position in acute and/or ambulatory setting. - Minimum five (5) years recent sterile processing experience in acute and/or ambulatory setting. Education
- Bachelor's degree in related healthcare field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. License, Certification, Registration
Sterile Processing certification - CRCST required upon hire/transfer.
- Knowledge of current regulations and requirements (AAMI, AORN, SGNA, etc).
- Detailed and extensive experience in sterile processing in/around operating room environments (inpatient and ambulatory), outpatient clinic settings and endoscopic reprocessing.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum design, development and delivery.
- Demonstrated experience in quality management principles.
- Proficient in desktop publishing and audio-visual equipment and materials.
- Demonstrated skills in presentations, clinical skills assessment methodology and project management.

- Advanced skills in state of the art audio visual and related instructional equipment preferred.
- Advanced computer skills in word processing, database management, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills preferred.
